update Plumber has converted to sealed (which seemed to sort problem out so I can only imagine that it was taking in air via F&E/vent?) - and I have just found out that the boiler is not suitable for a pressurised system - no high limit stat and sectional boiler so manufacturer says cannot...

I agree - I think the problem is that most of the radiators now seem OK with only two problem ones - the lounge and dining room. The lounge in particular involves a lomg run of 10 mm pipe and I fear the sludge is in that. Flushing will therefore be difficult and replumbing it very messy. Not...
