    Get away with lining this?

No, the Premium isn't what I meant. This is the thickest one: http://www.gowallpaper.co.uk/erfurt-mav-wallrock-fibreliner-plus-100-double-extra-v180.html

    guide this newbie

Usually a brush for woodwork and a roller for emulsion (walls and ceilings). But even with walls and ceilings, you still need a brush for cutting in where two colours meet. Get a medium pile 9" microfibre roller sleeve the right diameter for the holder, plus a smaller 4" one for fiddlier bits...

Remove water marks on bathroom wall

It's poor design to have an emulsion-painted surface in a bathroom that you have to wipe down on such a regular basis. Even if you have used a wipeable/scrubbable paint, it's probably not intended to be wiped. Consider tiling the area round the basin, or keep the towel on the back of the door...

    Get away with lining this?

Ha! No, but I'm considered asking them for commission! It is good stuff though - I like the way it is impossible to tear and being non-woven, it doesn't stretch or shrink like ordinary lining paper. I'm all in favour of decorating materials which stay where you put them and behave themselves...

    Papering prep for plasterboard wall.

It's a thin glue or sealant applied to walls prior to papering, to lock dust particles and promote adhesion (by sealing any porous areas so that the wallpaper adhesive doesn't all get sponged up by them).

    Uneven paint after 2 coats

Please don't tell me you used the same paint for picture rail, skirting board and walls....

    Beading and Gap

Put the beading back. Quite clearly it wasn't superfluous at all.

    Get away with lining this?

Yes, it will show through ordinary lining paper, even 2000 grade. No, it will not show through Wallrock Fibreliner. Be told!

Switch - plastered to the wall - removed now mess

'A proper white' by Farrow and Balls-up is a contradiction in terms.

    Papering prep for plasterboard wall.

I have watered down the Mav paste once or twice to size plastered walls and there were no problems. Agree that you shouldn't really need a size with plasterboard.

    Papering prep for plasterboard wall.

It's always best to use the same paste product to apply the various layers throughout the process, if possible. So I would either thin the Mav stuff down if you think a size is needed, or alternatively, use the Gardz all over.

    Garage floor paint on pinewood

That floor looks very high gloss. To get the floor paint to adhere it will need a lot of sanding. It looks like a lovely floor anyway. You must be mad to be planning to paint it. Please sand and seal with Osmo oil or polyurethane if you must, but don't paint it at all. If you want it to be...

    Papering prep for plasterboard wall.

Don't worry, it'll be fine. As long as the paste is compatible with the paper (check this) you should have no problems. The Gardz is very accommodating - I've never come across anything which won't stick to it. Are you planning to paint the lining paper eventually or put a decorative paper on top?

    Painting round door weather seals

Thanks! The weather is rubbish, isn't it. I have painted some new window frames in my workshop this year but very few outside.

    Painting round door weather seals

Oh, that's good. When you have discovered how to remove (and replace!) the seals, please share that with us. I would love to know. If he makes you any more windows, perhaps suggest to him that the seals (and even the dg units) are fitted after, rather than before, painting?!

    Painting round door weather seals

Painting them would be awful - they's look naff, it would take a value off the new windows/the property generally, and the paint would stiffen the seals so they won't flex as they are meant to. You cannot easily take them out and replace them - this is a specialist job I think. (Id love to be...

    Staircase spindles / rail

So true! Our worst-ever find (in a house we bought) was a dark purple bedroom ceiling sporting polystyrene tiles all over it with 1"-2" uneven gaps round them and splodges of different coloured paint on each one. A bit worrying, really.

    Get away with lining this?

Re paper, Wallrock Fibreliner Plus (the thickest you can get - I think it's 180) covers a multitude of surface imperfections really well. It comes in 3 widths too, inc. 1 m wide, which makes the job much faster. It's more expensive than ordinary lining paper (I pay about £32 for 20 sq m online...

Best prep and paint for a ceiling on paper, in one coat?

There are no satisfactory half-measures on this one, really. Ceilings which haven't been painted for 30 years will be pretty dirty and need at least two coats of quality emulsion to look anything like. One coat will make it look patchy. Two should result in pristine. There is no such thing as...
