    Uneven joist

Cheers woody. I'm just worried that screwing the chipboard down under tension would cause it to eventually pull through etc. Just had another measure, it doesn't look like much, but it's around 15 - 18mm drop - and feels like a lot of tension when I push it down, Cheers

    Uneven joist

Yes that is what I mean. I went with this as it was more cost effective and easier to handle, but if it's not up to it for this reason, then I'll have to ditch it. Fixing The underlying issue isn't an option, as all the joist from here on are at this level, its obviously been like this since...

    Uneven joist

Hey guys. I'm in the process of laying my bathroom floor after lifting the split, bodged and rotted floor boards and joists. All the joists are level with each other except for the end one. If it was other end I would pack it up to meet the others, but it's at the entrance end, and if I pack...

Need to replace a couple of joists...

You did actually mention replacing the whole joist depending on the span, which wasn't an option due to limited space. This is when I can up with replacing the joist upto the next support, but in the parts so that I could slide them into place. I have actually had to do this one to one of...

Need to replace a couple of joists...

Ok thanks. The reason I ask was because of this earlier advice... Cheers

Need to replace a couple of joists...

I hear you. So once all bolted and packed up, (with some kind of dpc?) then cut out the rotten bits? Cheers

Need to replace a couple of joists...

No, no misunderstanding. I was up for sistering the joists, but then someone else said I shouldn't do that. But now I've thought about it, it's not that much more hassle to do as per my last 'sketch', for my peace of mind if nothing else. They are only short, but there is going to be a...

Need to replace a couple of joists...

That method did cross my mind before I knew how long I needed them to be, but unfortunately I don't have for the room on the outside either. There's a 6' driveway then a 8'wall. Cheers

Need to replace a couple of joists...

Ok so I had an idea. Please bear with... After having a quick look under the floor in the hall this morning, I noticed the lounge wall is also sitting on the floorboards, (which I didn't think it did) and there is also another joist mid span support under it. So I think I can replace the...

Need to replace a couple of joists...

That's for the replies guys. A little confused with what to do now. This is thevother end: Which for me is easy enough to get a new joist next to the old ones, pack up as required and fix down. I then want to bolt the new to the old? (How big bolts? Every 300mm or so?) Then cut out the wet...

Need to replace a couple of joists...

Yes it is just the 2. The one with the chisel sticking out of it is the worst one, and lost quite a bit of material by poking around at it. It is sound to both left and right, and actually, about a meter to the left is where it starts, in a pocket of the cavity wall, sitting on a sole plate(?)...

Need to replace a couple of joists...

Sorry I was thinking about it while typing but forgot to give that info! Yes it's on ground floor, it's a 1930's bungalow. It's timber suspended floor with vents around the perimeter. Yes it's 4x2, wasn't too sure what to call it, maybe a mid span support? It runs all the way from front to...

Need to replace a couple of joists...

Hey guys. Currently doing the bathroom, and although I expected the floor to be wet from the bodged up shower, i didn't expect it to be this bad. As you can see from the (hopefully) attached photo, the joists have rotted right up to the supporting sole plate, which means it needs cutting...

    Blocking up window- insulation..?

Hey guys. I've just removed a window and built the inside up. I've got cavity wall insulation, the white pumped in fibre stuff. So I'm wondering what I should use inside this bit before blocking up the outside leaf? Cheers.

    Bathroom and soil pipe.

It's really put me at ease with the whole BC thing! Before doing this I ummed and arred a lot about even bothering with BC! Something like cement tile board/ Aqua panel then? Cheers

    Bathroom and soil pipe.

Thanks noseall, there's no toilet going into it at this level, that will be when (if!) the loft conversion happens. I'm running it as close to the wall as poss to keep the boxing to a minimum. The BC lady was happy. Don't know what I was nervous about. I expected a hands and knees job...

    Bathroom and soil pipe.

Cool, cheers. I've used a 3:1 (a generous '1') with just enough water for it to hold itself together. Out with the old... In with the new: I'm a little nervous for the first bc inspection, but going to get them round tomorrow to hopefully get this bit seen so that I can backfill the...

    Bathroom and soil pipe.

I'll get some bits and bobs tomorrow then. Pushes me back another day but at least I'll know it's right! What's the deal with cementing the new pipe in place and benching? Does it need to be special waterproof mix of some kind or just normal sand and cement? Cheers!
