What insulation roll would be best for this application

I wanted rockwool when insulating my garage (beneath the bathroom) but couldn't get it in 150mm. I used super glass cavity batts which worked nicely as they're much more rigid. However, do wear a respirator and eye protection (full face respirator works nicely). It's a horrible job. Decent...

    Oven recommendations?

Not a direct answer but if you're near a Euronics, they're pretty knowledgeable and usually stock decent stuff. Definitely worth dropping in and might price match too.

Electric underfloor heating over chrysotile containing vinyl tiles

Do call the tip/local authority as they may take it and it saves you a fortune in contracting a waste removal specialist. Make sure it's double wrapped in 1000g polythene which you can get from Screwfix etc. I'm pretty sure damp membrane is 1200g poly so if that's cheaper go for that. For mine...

    Asbestos Solution

Definitely wouldn't glue anything to that. As others have mentioned, you risk ripping it off the nails. Painting is a definite option and use the HSE guidance on how to do this. From those images it looks to be in good condition. Unless you're ripping, grinding or drilling, nothing to worry about.

    Asbestos Solution

You can confirm if it's AIB or Asbestos Cement by a water absorption test if you're interested. AC is known to contain Amosite so isn't a reliable indicator of what type of material it is on its own. As other have said though, unless you're planning to drill it or disturb in some way, it poses...

    Asbestos

The only other tips I would give are your standard safety precautions: suitable dust and eye protection, watch out for cables, pipes and have a vacuum to hand.

    Asbestos

If the paint was done in the last 20 years then almost certainly no asbestos. Asbestos products were banned in 1999 with other stuff like Crocidolite and Amosite banned in the 1980s. The thing to watch out for in the garage is if the paint is actually encapsulating asbestos. Boards that look...

These batteries any good for my 18V Tools?

Not owned dewalt but if you're looking at batteries, do shop around. I have Makita and you can get the batteries significantly cheaper than toolstation and screwfix. I use powertoolmate or powertoolworld for my stuff. +1 to big-all advice. Avoid "for xxx" like the plague. Amazon is full of them...

Loft leg XLs are 300mm tall so why are those a no go?

    Plasterboard? Cement render?

If it was built in 1879 I doubt there is any asbestos in the super structure. Just be careful around any renovation work done in the 80s! I'm not experienced on plastering so will leave to others to give you the best advice. However, as you've mentioned fillers (for as and when the time...

    Plasterboard? Cement render?

Thanks. When you say 1980s, I presume this when the conversion to flats was done? If so, be very careful around materials between the flats. If there are firebreaks between each dwelling, this was a typical use of asbestos materials as its highly fire resistant. Knowing it's a victorian house...

    Asbestos? or not?

The textured ceiling looks like artex although only a test will confirm if it actually contains asbestos. The suspended ceiling I can't tell from images alone. Worst case scenario it's AIB panels depending on when they were done. You cant tell if it's asbestos just by looking at it. You need...

    Plasterboard? Cement render?

The socket looks like plasterboard from the image so nothing to be concerned about. Re asbestos, look at where the material is and what it's used for. I would be cautious of anything that would be fire proofing in say a garage or behind what was the boiler for warm air heating. The drainage...

    Crack in artex ceiling

What's above the ceiling? No point trying to repair or fill it if there is something above causing a problem. If it's the loft for example, is a leak causing the board to sag? I had a rude experience of this myself!!

    LOFT BOARDING & INSULATION

I did this using loft legs in my own house. Only the middle bit boarded for boxes and pretty much what youre looking to do. 11mm OSB with ceiling joists at 400mm centres and is surprisingly rigid. I certainly wouldn't jump and down on it (it's a low loft anyway) but for gentle moving it's...

    1970's vinyl tiles problem

I know what you mean. I actually don't mind them aside from the obvious! Sealing the edges I haven't done which is why I will leave that to others on the forum as I don't want to give you poor guidance. From what I've read you need a special compound and it's to do with binding to the bitumen.

    1970's vinyl tiles problem

They're probably the Thermoplastic Tiles and size would indicate so. Mine are 250mm by 250mm for comparison and the edges also bust from carpet grippers. They most likely contain Asbestos (though only a lab can confirm) due to the age, size and use HOWEVER, unless you're planning to dissolve or...

    1970's vinyl tiles problem

Have you got a larger picture, size of tile and are they a rigid plastic type? If they're rigid plastic (thermoplastic marley tiles) type they then may contain asbestos BUT, it's very heavily bonded and poses little health risk unless you're grinding them. Put simply nothing to worry about...

    Plasterboard or Asbestos Insulating Board?

Its very difficult to tell from the images alone, especially for suspected AIB. The one bit does look like foil backed plasterboard but the other bits you cannot tell from images alone. Your landlord who had the renovations done might know but I do ask why you need to know? Unless you have...

asbestos or not asbestos that is the question

When was your house built and what's the size of the tile? They look very similar to the Thermoplastic Marley Tiles. The only way to be certain of absestos is to get it tested. However, if they do contain asbestos, it will likely be chrysotile and it's very heavily bonded. Put simply, unless you...
