    Insulation Around Cables in Joists

Thanks. I will use 10mm T+E in that case. Theory on an electric shower is I am gravity bath and hot water tank (traditional boiler) so seemed more logical and easier. House is still on an old fuse board so will be replaced with RCBOs (and perhaps AFDDs) at some point. DNO cut out is 100A...

    Budget sander under £50

I would give a +1 to Makita Sanders. I've used the cordless Random Orbit Sander r and it's a really neat tool. For the OP, it's outside the £50 price range but you can get the corded sanders for around £60. Considering some merchants have "flash sales", depending on time criticality you may get...

Filling a Toilet from Mains and Cold Water Storage Tank

Bit difficult when you're sat on the toilet or doing maintenance in the bathroom! It was a contingency yes but practically speaking I would prefer something that doesn't resemble a horror film scene...

    Insulation Around Cables in Joists

I've done some calculations and if I treat it as Reference Method A (cable in conduit in insulated wall), a 10mm might work. Future proofing a 16mm has other benefits though. Has anyone wired a shower in 16mm (I.e. Will the shower and the pull cord isolator take the cable)?

Filling a Toilet from Mains and Cold Water Storage Tank

Thanks. How does connecting the cold water tank to the main plumbing comply with byelaws? I know there needs to be an air gap for the tank so didn't think this was possible (though understand mixer taps need double check valves especially if it's on a tanked and mains supply). Using the header...

Filling a Toilet from Mains and Cold Water Storage Tank

Good Afternoon, My house has a mixture of mains, Cold Water Storage and Vented Hot Water Plumbing. The toilet in the Bathroom is currently mains fed (flow rate approx 9 litres per minute, kitchen tap next to the inlet pipe about 18) and the bathtub is fed from the Cold Water Storage Tank in...

    Insulation Around Cables in Joists

Thanks. I will have a look at 16mm and see if it works (main issue will be the bending radius if I use XLPE SWA) but worst case scenario, it will take a 40A which works. Linked, are there any documents that refer to XLPE SWA touching insulation? I know there are methods for burying in the ground...

    Insulation Around Cables in Joists

All, I have a bathroom above an unheated integral garage and I plan to insulate the floor (about 2.5M x 1.5M) The primary issue is all of the house electrics are bunched together in the middle of the joists (the house was built like this in the 1970s). The joists are 170mm thick (I am aware of...

Replacing Old Stop Tap on Old Imperial Pipe

I should have been a bit clearer, I get the 3/4 olive, it's the suggestion of a 22mm compression for a pipe that's 26.9mm OD. I will do some googling in the meantime. Replacing the pipe isn't an option as that involves digging up the driveway and a heap of pain.

Replacing Old Stop Tap on Old Imperial Pipe

Thanks all, Super helpful! I have a confession, I've done the classic thing of a one inch pipe, is NOT one inch... So having measured it with a tape measure (I don't have a set of verniers at the moment), it's around 26mm which puts it inline with 3/4 Inch Alkathene...

Replacing Old Stop Tap on Old Imperial Pipe

Morning All, My Stop Tap has seized up and the good old spanner and lubracating spray hasnt helped. Ive attached an image as its a bit of a dogs dinner and will need a lot of tidying up (plumbing under the sink is a right mess). The layout: 1) What appears to be 1 inch black imperial pipe...

    Partitioning Garage

Thanks both, if it would need a BC application I would be minded to convert the whole garage. How come only this partitioned area would need one as its not really habitable (2-3 square meters at most)? The gas meter would pass underneath the proposed stud wall. I havent traced the gas pipe but...

    Under Stair Storage and Reinforcement

Thanks for the replies. Seems like its a simpler job then what I was thinking. The only other thing is how to secure to the wall as I suspect I will make some bracing to support the mini landing area. Is this a case of using joist hangers and some 2x4 or similar? RE using a company, this is the...

    Partitioning Garage

Good Morning, I have an integral garage which is double skin contruction where part of the main house (about 1500 mm) and then single skin with piers for the protrusion. The upstairs wall is supported by a concrete lintel. The floor is concrete and stepped down from the main house. I am...

    Under Stair Storage and Reinforcement

Good Morning, The previous owners started to utilse the space underneath the stairs as storage and I want to open it up a lot more. I have the following challenges: 1) The stairs creak underfoot. 2) You will see from the images its a mess and the classic a block of wood and more nails will do...
