    Repairing Bath - How?

Thanks. I'll look into it. A bodge job would be ok - doesn't need to be a perfect repair, just good enough for my Mum not to tut if she ever sees it!

    Repairing Bath - How?

Hello forum, I've managed (long and embarrassing story) to damage my bath. See photo. It's not essential, but I'd quite like to repair it because it obviously looks quite untidy. In the long run I plan to replace the whole bathroom suite, but that could be a few years away. Can anyone suggest...

White Residue on Solid Wood Floor

Thank you. I'm trying some white (distilled) vinegar following some stuff I read on Mumsnet (I think) about vinegar being good for cleaning up plaster dust. I think it might be working...slowly...might need a few "goings over" (the grain is very fine so getting a brush into them isn't easy). We...

White Residue on Solid Wood Floor

Whoops...sorry, very slow reply. The floor was laid about a year ago. Brand new stuff from Homebase. I haven't waxed it or given it any other treatment since then. When I first laid the floor it looked immaculate - none of the white bloom at all. A lot of it still does look like that. Other...

White Residue on Solid Wood Floor

I have a dark solid wood floor in my hallway. Recently I've had to do a bit of filling and sanding of the walls and ceiling in the hallway, and unfortunately, despite my best efforts, some of the very fine plaster dust has got into the grain in the wood floor, leaving a white "bloom" in certain...

    Skirting Board Woes

    Yep. So...what now?

    Skirting Board Woes

Hello forum, I replaced all the skirting boards in my flat recently. I used a fully finished white skirting board from Wickes. Well...I hoped it would be straightforward - lots of nice 45 degree mitres, some scribed joints and glue the whole lot on to the walls. Bish bash bosh, job done. Not...

Pine Bed Frame - Mystery Bolts

Not sure where I'd find such a place - although I've found a couple of suppliers online (who seem to specialise in obscure/unusual sizes) so I've just emailed the photo/measurements to them to see if they can advise.

Pine Bed Frame - Mystery Bolts

It fits in the sleeve, yes - but I can only tighten about a quarter turn (if that) because obviously the thread's not right so it gets stuck.

Pine Bed Frame - Mystery Bolts

Yes the diameter looks exactly the same as the M8 bolt ie 8mm. From a bed made I think in the late 1980s (so probably not worth investing a huge amount of effort in!) - would everything have been metric by then? 14tpi would mean a thread pitch of about 1.8mm I think.

Pine Bed Frame - Mystery Bolts

So is this an old imperial size? 14tpi with 5/16" diameter seems to be an unknown combination :(

Pine Bed Frame - Mystery Bolts

Thanks. Looks to me like 14 threads per inch. Does that help? *runs for Google*

Pine Bed Frame - Mystery Bolts

Hello forum, I'm repairing an old pine bed frame. It had 4 big allen bolts, one in each corner, which screw into some kind of little threaded sleeve. However 3 of the 4 bolts has gone missing. I'm struggling to replace them because I don't know what they're called, how to describe their size...

    Solid Wood Floor - Installation

Hello forum, After a long time I've found a solid wood flooring product that I'm happy with. Small-ish pieces of wood, about 12cm wide and typically 80-100cm long. Tongue & groove fitting. Unfortunately the manufacturer's instructions re: installation are confusing and ambiguous. Speaking to...

    Flooring Questions

Having done some more research it seems like there's some nice engineering flooring out there with a distressed finish - prices typically £50/m2. I wonder if that might be a good solution for me.

    Flooring Questions

Hello forum. Hoping to find some help/guidance re: my plans for replacing the flooring in my flat. When I bought the flat in 04 it was fitted throughout in laminate flooring. I didn't much like it then and it's looking very tired now, 12 years on - lots of scuffing & general wear. I'd like to...

    Dishwasher Questions

Hello forum, I have a Neff built-in dishwasher in my kitchen. I think it's about 15 years old but has always worked very well. Had a drain blockage a few days ago causing the machine to backfill. Anti flood switch seems to have been activated because the drain pump was running and running...
