Vacuum, dust extraction - H class

Thanks. How often would the vacuum need maintenance? As far as I can see the main items are the HEPA filter and the secondary "Permatex" filter. I assume that these will need to be cleaned and inspected periodically. I think that the vast majority of cleaning up and direct extraction would...

Vacuum, dust extraction - H class

Thanks Sammy. As it is H Class I believed that would be OK for asbestos too. I don't actually have any definite asbestos to clear, and if I did I wouldn't do it myself, so it is really just erring on the side of caution, because I don't know 100% what is in any given surface.

Vacuum, dust extraction - H class

Hi, I am slowly (very slowly) renovating a 1950s house. I haven't had any materials tested, but lots of the walls and ceilings are painted with very old paint, I found an asbestos pipe and there is plenty of brick, plasterboard and wood dust. Having kids in the house, I am particularly...

    Mitre, table and track saws

Thank you for all of the advice, much appreciated. I am certainly veering towards a track saw now. My concern with the track vs table was always the repeatability of cuts to sheets, which seems to rely upon accurate measurement with the track saw, but some combination of fence/jig/sled on the...

    Mitre, table and track saws

Hi, I am trying to research saws for a number of projects that I want to do. At the moment the only power saws I have at cheap jigsaw and circular saw (and I also have a router). I appreciate that the right tool depends upon the job at hand, so I'm trying to focus on specific projects that I...

    PC fan to leisure battery

OK thanks. I just wondered if the 12V socket would regulate it (at least regulate it down if the battery was delivering above 12V).

    PC fan to leisure battery

Thank you. I will certainly give that a try. The fan arrived today and I have successfully wired it up to the 12V supply, so I am going to give that a try too. If the door thing works, then perhaps just a louvre vent or two, near the ground would be enough. Unfortunately, it's not a good day...

    PC fan to leisure battery

Thank you. The fan should be coming today, so I am going to wire it to the 12V 1.5A supply that I found, just to see what effect it has. With regards to using a car USB supply to regulate, could I just use a full 12v socket, something like this...

    PC fan to leisure battery

Thanks. The problem is that the greenhouse is over 100ft from the nearest socket, so I will use an extension cord and the 12v supply just for testing, but need something standalone on a more permanent basis.

    PC fan to leisure battery

Yes, you may well be right, but I reckon it can't hurt to try. The specs on the fan I have gone for says that it can move 176 cubic metres an hour, and the greenhouse is only 12 cubic metres, so maybe it might have an effect. I just have no idea how much is currently being lost by convection...

    PC fan to leisure battery

Thanks. I planned to either link it to a solar panel, or recharge frequently with a trickle charger. Just wondered if that theoretical calc was correct. Thanks. I had planned to eventually recharge the battery with a solar panel, if the initial tests showed that the fan made any difference...

    PC fan to leisure battery

Hi, I am planning to add a DIY exhaust fan to a greenhouse. The greenhouse is about 12 cubic metres and I was planning to start with a PC fan like this one (12V 0.25A) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002KTVFTE powered from a leisure battery like this one...

Thinner kerf circular saw blade won't tighten

Thanks to everyone. I had originally focused on the thickness, but now understand that the number of teeth is more important, so I will scrap the idea of using the blade. The diameter is 190mm vs 235mm for the saw. If that is too low I will just get rid of the blade altogether. For the...

Thinner kerf circular saw blade won't tighten

Thanks. I had thought that using a thinner kerf was pretty straightforward (and common), as long I kept the same bore size and did not exceed the saw's max blade diameter. Is it unusual to use a thinner kerf with the same saw? Do I need something like this...

Thinner kerf circular saw blade won't tighten

Hi. Here is before installing the blade, and after. There is nothing else under the blade, once installed. Is there a part missing?

Thinner kerf circular saw blade won't tighten

Hi, I am trying to replace the default blade on this circular saw https://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-erb596cws-2000w-235mm-circular-saw-240v/71604 with this thinner kerf blade (for cutting polycarbonate sheets)...

What is this pipe made of?

Thanks. It doesn't melt so I guess it is asbestos cement. Does anybody have any thoughts on removal? There is no chimney on the ground floor, so it must connect to the chimney upstairs. I have raised the floor boards in the room above and there is a boxed in area, which must be where it...

What is this pipe made of?

Hi, I need to remove a pipe that was previously used as part of the ventilation for a gas fire, and I'm trying to figure out what it is made of, before cutting or disturbing it further. The cut end looks like plastic, but tapping it with a screwdrivers makes it sound like ceramic. Any advice...

    Battens for kitchen

Thank you. I will just use the cheaper studwork timbers then. I will be installing wall units, and had planned to put horizontal timbers in the appropriate locations. I guess that the OSB will give more flexibility. Do I simply fix the OSB to the battens and then the plasterboard to the OSB?
