    Rad rusted through

A lot of designer rads and towel rails are manufactured in china, left bare, sit on pallets outside in all weather's, in yards, ready to be shipped. They get shipped over, blasted and painted. They don't always get all the rust off the outside, let alone the inside.

    Grant Oil Boiler Leaking

Phone Grant direct, explain the situation. We've done several on warranty, that's how we get them. Please don't just fit everything and expect it to work, it will need setting up by an engineer. Ask Grant whilst you're on the phone, they will have someone in the area they can recommend. ***...

    Grant Oil Boiler Leaking

Grants are generally good boilers but do have a weakness for leaks associated with the heat exchangers. Grant will sell a short boiler, basically new heat exchanger on a base plate that you put all the ancillaries and panels on from your old boiler. You would need a competent oil engineer as it...

Should I pay to fix their defective work

Are you a plumber, Harry? I see you setting a lot of rules that tradesmen should follow and giving lots of advice on how things should be done. Not after an argument, just interested.

Should I pay to fix their defective work

That's nonsense mate. No disrespect, but you're talking rubbish. Not sure where all you people feel the cut off point is for plumbers good will. Most people expect the moon on a stick nowadays and that seems to be extending further and further into the realms of unmanageable.

Should I pay to fix their defective work

If it was a... 'while you're here can you just do this'... job, then he was probably right. 18 months is a bit long winded to be honest anyway. As much as customers like to moan about their tradesmen, sometimes tradesmen have a good old moan about their customers, maybe he just doesn’t like you.

Open system sucking in air, closed system still sucking in air! Any help or pointers?

If the boiler is the top of the system, do you have an AAV open? Also check rad valves.

    Weeping inline isolation valve

Check airing cupboard, you might have a valve on the cold down service. If not, invest in a set of bungs, they come in handy.

Dry Testing - Worth It Or Not?

Quick air test to check for open ends and unmade joints, water test to required pressure after. Link flow and return, pressure gauge and a 15mm valve. Hoselock spigot onto valve threads, plug your hose in and away you go. Pressure up, valve off.

Drilling ceiling rafters in garage for pipework

Fit the pipes underneath. If you want to insulate and board in the future, just batten the ceiling down 25mm.

    is my shower tray level

You often find trays have 2 level edges and 2 that are slightly out. You get them as close as you can. I'd say by the tile cuts and the fit of the screen that your tray isn't far out.

Injector missing from boiler - is it dangerous?

Phone ideal and get them to come and service it. Will put your mind at rest.

    Possible bodged boiler install

Yep, looks a right bas***d doesn't it. Installer clearly didn't want to go up the roof, probably done it standing on a ladder instead. As it goes, Viessmann are awful to deal with. Great sales team, but the warranty side wriggle like a greased up piglet if you need some help.

    Good brands of unvented cylinder

Invacyl is the budget range. We had an issue with one that put me off using any more. They feel cheap. Centre brand have also moved to a new supplier, they feel cheap too, I won't use any more of those either. Main/potterton/baxi are good mid range ccyls. Joule cyclone are my favourite but...

    Good brands of unvented cylinder

Joule cyclone are good but steer clear of joule invacyl. Santon Premier and old style centre brand were good. These are still available as main/potterton/baxi branded cylinders.

If you have any shower pumps, the manufacturers usually state minimum 50 gallons of storage.

Is this bath waste ok, or is there a better one?

That particular trap will cause you no end of issues as it doesn't have a waste pipe attached. Be very leaky if you leave it like that.
