    My kitchen refit.

Sorry but this is utterly beyond my comprehension the "old" is a far more attractive kitchen than the new.

    Do I need Planning Permisssion?

It is NOT an "extension", it says quite plainly in the website given by our friend above that the rules apply to houses and not other buildings such as in your case a garage. The fact that it is attached to the house is irrelevant, it might be in the same location but not be attached to the...

    Do I need Planning Permisssion?

Just a builder mate, but why not do it yourself? Doubt if the council will be interested as it is not a habitable building and what you want to do would not change it's use.

How to close/plaster a deep hole in the wall

Had similar problem in bedroom of ours when we moved in. Got a tub of Wickes Plaster Skim and Repair (it does not slump), had two goes with it as hole was a bit deep - sorted!

How did I get this wrong?

That sounds about right EFL I have put the yellow in the wrong COM (the one for the garage flourescent which of course only needs a single two way solution as it has no three plate rose) so will try it in the morn and report back.

How did I get this wrong?

Thanks for reply. The picture on the left is what I have in the single two way in the hall except that there are two reds in one way not one and the other "way" has a blue and a black in it. I don't recognise the picture on the right at all - I will reiterate that one of the two gangs in the...

How did I get this wrong?

There is a two gang switch in the garage which controls both the garage flourescent light and a light in the vestibule next the garage. the vestibule light in the ceiling is also controlled by a one gang two way switch in the hall next the vestibule. The garage light switch was very stiff...

    clever scam

I have no idea how their email got hacked they did not tell me except mentioning Whatsapp but when the first message arrived, every detail of their address which appeared on my PC was correct as were the subsequent ones and the one specifically requesting me to obtain an Amazon voucher for £250...

    clever scam

This one almost had me: Got a request from a good friend to help send an Amazon voucher for £250 to a sick friend of theirs. "We will reimburse you later". It looked totally genuine and really did come from them (correct email add, etc.) £250 seemed a lot to me so I suggested that they come to...

Cracked outdoor paint - Advice needed

I always used to use oil based which of course always eventually develops cracks then one day decided to go for acrylic on the barge boards a few years ago which I got from Wickes. OK it's not as shiny but it doesn't seem to crack, been on their now for 8 years.

    Velux window fitting

I don't doubt you, they are OK for the first few years then the trouble begins. Usually around the 12 - 15 year age as those rubber? seals deteriorate, possible from sunlight , I am not sure. You must know as well as I do that it's nearly always in the same place i e the bottom LH corner and of...

    Velux window fitting

Poor design of course, perhaps you are not aware of the fact that they are forever re-designing their stuff - at least four or five times in the last twenty years to my certain knowledge. Mind you there do seem to be quite a few brainless cowboys out there who don't know how to read installation...

    Velux window fitting

Well they maybe he market leaders but they are very leaky market leaders, I have heard of dozens of complaints of leaky Velux windows and got a couple in my present house which I had to attend to because of poor design.

    Velux window fitting

Don't assume as many do that Velux are the dog's whatsits. There are other and better products out there - do a bit of research.

    BEKO washing machine gasket

Ahem, it took me less than an hour and I am not a "tradesman" in fact a decent tradesman who I watched on Youtube took about 15 minutes. As it happens my local garage charges £52/hour and they do a lot more than washing machines. This bloke was trying to charge me £100 for an hour's work tops...

    Expert report on failed dishwasher

Try talking to the local small claims court, I have had some useful help from them in the past.

    BEKO washing machine gasket

Recently it got a rip in it so it started leaking from the bottom of the door (the cat is a suspect LOL). Anyway, unusually for me I decided to get a quote from a local (checkatrade) trader. He wanted £130 and as one can get a new one for about £25 mrs decided he was having a larf and told me to...
