    Electronics in cars..............what a nightmare

Things really have came a long way in a relatively short time. About 40 years ago didn't cars fall to pieces with rust by about 10 years old? And what about the buying criteria? Even as recent as the 80's power steering wasn't really in 'run of the mill' cars like Fiestas and Cavaliers (or...

    Wobbly handle

Mine has screws on the internal handle faceplate which screw into the rear of the external one. You can see what I mean in this example https://www.handlestore.com/d71-prolinea-92pz-122?gclid=CjwKCAiAiarfBRASEiwAw1tYv8FNQizptTkDR4-eSk9rnMm54-u4dXcV9yY67_Euk2SaHGQe7ay6kxoCbJwQAvD_BwE#83=48

    Motorbike helmet irritating skin

My head is Arai shaped, the Shoeis felt too 'round' for me. Don't scrimp on a cheap helmet, it'll just annoy you until you replace it. Try on a Shoei or an Arai of the correct size, then work your way along the shelf, trying all the cheaper ones. At the end, try your preferred Shoei or Arai...

    Shaver

I can't answer your question, but I've had a Philips shaver for a good few years which works great on my face, the battery still holds up pretty good, and I haven't even needed to change the blades. Fits nicely in the hand blah blah, and can be used wet or dry. It's this one...

    Bathroom radiator nightmare

Which part is leaking? Is it where the tail screws into the radiator, or where the valve screws onto the tail, or where the pipe (probably with the olive in it) screws into the valve?

Honeywell Galaxy G2-12 - Can ADT disable it?

I'm not an alarm expert but did self-install my G2-12 with some help from this forum. I reckon that if you've disconnected the phone line they won't be able to access any settings, but neither will you without the engineers code, which they won't give you. Have a read through the installation...

    Overboarding a Felt Roof

The felt will come off easier when the bitumen is brittle ie on a colder morning. A decent spade is the preferred tool.

    Numberplate spacing?

When buying a bike a while ago I researched how to lose the least money if I sold it after a year or two. Generally speaking they depreciate a bit like cars for the first few years, but then the depreciation settles down. Once they get down towards about £3-3.5k the depreciation really slows...

Stripping Paint with a Gas Torch?

A gas torch will probably be too hot and will scorch/burn the top layer. Years ago I removed lots of paint from skirtings/facings with a heat gun and developed a knack - there was a specific amount of heat which softened the whole lot so it came of easy - too much and it made it worse. No harm...

Swap out head of 22mm gate valve?

Hi, Sister in law has a gate valve on which the knob turns and the shaft rotates but it doesn't get to a 'stop' either way, nor turn the water off. It's among a tight row of pipes so unscrewing the nuts would be tricky, but it would be easy to replace the head if it's possible. Are heads...

Help on how to use this alarm system?

I don't know a great deal about alarms so I probably won't be able to help, but that's just the keypad in the pic. Somewhere else you'll have the actual alarm panel, locate it and see what it says on it.

    Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

My Mazda uses the ABS sensors too. A potential problem is that AFAIK it only detects a difference in the drag of an individual wheel, ie if all four tyres were a bit low it wouldn't know. Perhaps it's smarter than that tho, I'm happy to be corrected :)

External light fed from behind. How to feed from the surface?

Thanks to all for your help :)

    Guttering fittings leaking

There's another possibility. I haven't worked with your particular type of gutter, but sometimes notches are cut into the inner section to allow the brackets to snap into place easier. If the notches are cut too big then the inner section isn't held tightly enough against the outer section...

    Dog gnawed door frame

I repaired a few smaller bashes and dents in my MDF skirtings and facings (the same as yours) using Fastset - it's a fine plaster which is normally used for putting up coving etc - it sets quite quickly, is easy to sand back and shape, and sands well to a feathered edge. It won't be as tough as...

External light fed from behind. How to feed from the surface?

Agreed, but what if the other side of the wall is the middle of the lounge wall??

External light fed from behind. How to feed from the surface?

Thanks for the genius replies guys, I wouldn't have thought of cutting a chase. Am I correct that it would need the cable entering from below to prevent water running down into the fitting?
