Hi,

Sister in law has a gate valve on which the knob turns and the shaft rotates but it doesn't get to a 'stop' either way, nor turn the water off. It's among a tight row of pipes so unscrewing the nuts would be tricky, but it would be easy to replace the head if it's possible. Are heads interchangeable? Is there likely to be part if a siezed shaft or something inside? Any help appreciated :)

It's marked NP20, and has three big letters on it, which were Y something something. Maybe the middle one was an i. Sorry, my memory is worse than a goldfish. It's on the flow to the DHW tank in 22mm pipe.

Thanks :)

The shafts sometimes jam. Such valves are often left unmoved for years on end, and sometimes they are wound right up to the stop, which encourages seizing. Trying to force them can break the brass spindle.

Post a photo

If all the valves look the same, post photos of the most visible one as well.

Just bung the tank then cut one in up in the loft , or bung the tank and then replace the head ( if the threads are the same )
