No dot and dab for retrofit insulated plasterboard?

Hello Was planning to install insulated plasterboard on a couple of external walls, and I had thought dot and dab and some mechanical fixings as back up was the way to go. However I've recently read that unless it's a new build (which it isn't) dot and dab should be avoided as it creates the...

Cable rising 35mm to sockets / insulated plasterboard - derating required?

Thank you both. That's a relief. I hadn't got so far as to the thickness of the insulation but it's a smallish room so probably not more that 60mm

Cable rising 35mm to sockets / insulated plasterboard - derating required?

Hello I was planning on putting insulated plasterboard on an external bedroom wall, but I came across a reference to derating the electrical circuit if cables are encased in insulation, so I thought I'd check to see how this might affect things. The external wall is plastered brick cavity and...

    Leaking render / SBR slurry

Wonder if you can help here. In the summer I painted the garden wall which is rendered block with a Tyrolean finish. It’s roadside, on a hill and there’s a lot of earth behind it - all but the last foot or so from the top. When the rain came I noticed in a couple of places that the paint...

Is adding an indirect cylinder to a combi boiler the right solution?

I did it at the kitchen sink which is at the other end of the house. But then I repeated it at the porch tap near where it comes in and it was the same It’s black plastic before the stopcock then blue plastic going into the porch. The circumference is 7cm so I make that a diameter of 22mm...

Is adding an indirect cylinder to a combi boiler the right solution?

    It’s black plastic, I think about 20mm.

Is adding an indirect cylinder to a combi boiler the right solution?

So I haven't bought a pressure gauge yet but the flow rate is 15 litres per minute, which isn't good news. I've also looked at the mains pipe, and before it even comes into the house it runs under a porch with quarry tiles on the floor. It seems like I've got the worst of everything -...

Insulation - rigid or rolls in loft pitched roof?

Okay yes, thanks, that’s really helpful. My roof rafters are 4x2, it’s the floor joists that are 9x3. So should I go for 50mm between the rafters with 50 air gap then 100 across the top? The plasterboard fixings will need to be very long!

Insulation - rigid or rolls in loft pitched roof?

Ok, thanks. So it’s been counter-battened under the tiles so nothing needed internally? What is the dividing point between the warm and cold side?

Is adding an indirect cylinder to a combi boiler the right solution?

Thanks Elkato531, thanks Madrab. I didn't think that was to do with general water pressure, I thought it was one outlet taking precedent over another, is that wrong? I grew up with an immersion heater where we had to wait for it heat up after every bath so I love that a combi boiler gives you...

Is adding an indirect cylinder to a combi boiler the right solution?

Thank you. Should a cylinder size still be commensurate with the size of the house/number of people if the water is primarily being heated by the boiler? It's 5 bedroom (not fully occupied) but the upstairs cupboard I'm thinking of putting it in has an access panel to the eaves where there's...

Is adding an indirect cylinder to a combi boiler the right solution?

No, although it's on a hill and the mains comes down from above. Is that a good sign? I presume/hope the installer would check that first? Where would the 22mm supply have to start - at the entry point to the house/stopcock? If it goes near the bathroom could it discharge into the bathroom...

Insulation - rigid or rolls in loft pitched roof?

Proper job, but done in the 90s, 9 x 3 joists have been added, floorboarded but only partly finished internally. Previous occupant finished off the plasterboarding a few years ago.

can a socket back on to shower?

Thanks, I like the idea of that but if the water pipe is directly above the socket (at knee level), isn't it going to hit the socket before it hits the drip loop?

Insulation - rigid or rolls in loft pitched roof?

Hello I had to have some additional rafters put in the roof. The roof is clay tile/battens/counterbattens/membrane/closeboarding. It's a converted loft and the insulation behind the plasterboard is 50mm polystyrene board (white with black flecks). I will be re-plasterboarding and my...
