Is 18mm plywood enough for a cold water tank support base? And what type of ply?

Yep, that's why I want to use them :) I did make that point in the first post, but can't say I blame you for not having read through all of it! Good thinking, and it did cross my mind. But we do get mice in the loft. Even had a stoat once! And while I will be looking to try to stop them...

Is 18mm plywood enough for a cold water tank support base? And what type of ply?

Fair point, and tbh I'm not espousing the need for waterproof/resistant boards, just re-iterating what I've read and been told elsewhere. Having thought it over though, whilst your point is obviously good and valid for a major leak, what about a slow drip type leak? If it were slow enough for...

Is 18mm plywood enough for a cold water tank support base? And what type of ply?

Yes, I'm pretty sure. Only the boards have sign of active worm, and perhaps that's not active anyhow but I'd rather not take the risk. Any other worm holes in the loft are historic. We had a firm come and check all the loft timbers when we moved in and that's what he concluded too. And...

Is 18mm plywood enough for a cold water tank support base? And what type of ply?

Yes, around 20 years or so at a guess. And yes, only changing the board. Just for the record, my boards are directly on the joists. There's no platform or cross joists beneath. Not sure if I'd made that clear so thought best to mention it in case it changes anything. (PS - love the avatar...

Is 18mm plywood enough for a cold water tank support base? And what type of ply?

Hi I've got some upcoming plumbing work and everything is being drained down for it, so I'm taking the opportunity to replace the boards under the tank in the loft because they have signs of woodworm... I'm hoping to use 18mm ply because it is available at B&Q where they will cut it to size...

Screwing loose uPVC window to walls

There aren't any fixings in this one. Strange because other windows in the house do have them but this one doesn't. And it sees a lot of weather from the west (quite elevated in the Brecon Beacons). Thanks for the suggestions. Slightly off topic, but before tiling I'll fill the small gap...

Screwing loose uPVC window to walls

He he he :) No, it's an opener and a single piece so the inside of the frame is easily exposed. Here's a couple of pics. Many thanks

Screwing loose uPVC window to walls

I've just been having a rummage and I found these... Are they concrete screws? Can you tell from a photo or any other way to tell if not? Sorry to be such a DIY dunce!

Fitting a baby belfast sink on brackets - what screws and general advice needed please.

Thanks for the tips @Madrab The walls are plastered so not too sure how I'd know if I'm hitting block/brick or mortar... Is there a way to tell other than knocking some plaster off? So before we make our final decision... Aesthetics aside, with decent screws and rawl plugs of the correct...

How deep do you have to chase wall for wall mounted bib taps?

Hi Rob You did indeed help, very much so :) Thank you So was it something like this you had in mind? https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-end-feed-adapting-90-wall-plate-elbow-15mm-x/91665 And the end of the threaded section sits flush to the wall's surface. And the tap then screws into...

How deep do you have to chase wall for wall mounted bib taps?

Hi again Second belfast sink related question, but different enough from the first to require a new thread... Our preference is for the sink to be mounted in a corner, and for the pipes to be chased in for wall mounted bib taps. Presumably that means having enough room in the chase for the...

Screwing loose uPVC window to walls

Might be famous last words, but I'm gonna say it... That sounds easy enough :) I'll be honest, I'd not heard of concrete screws. New one on me. AM I right to presume these would be used as the hole in the frame would not be large enough to put a rawl plug through? Or is there another...

Screwing loose uPVC window to walls

Hi Hoping this is a simple one, but wanted to make sure I get it right.... Which is never guaranteed with me :) There's a small uPVC window in my bathroom which is a little bit loose. The whole window (including frame) has movement within the opening. Some of the other windows in the...

Fitting a baby belfast sink on brackets - what screws and general advice needed please.

Hi all I've got an old baby belfast sink I want to use and I'd like to mount it on old brackets... I've done a mock installation in another part of the house just to see how secure it feels on the brackets and I'm happy with the result. If I put a lot of downward wait on the front lip of the...

Dead leg problem? Outside tap removal, but pipes are underground...

The main supply comes in through plastic pipes, at least where I can see it it does. I think when I've got some more time digging and removing it properly is the best solution. Thanks for all the help.

Screwfix Drill/Impact Driver Twin Pack Bargains - DeWalt vs Makita

Whilst looking into all this, it seems you get DeWalt fans who bash Makita, Makita fans who bash DeWalt, Bosch, Erbauer, etc fans in the side lines... People who say they're all much of a muchness. The divergence in opinions is quite strong. Except for Milwaukee... It seems that anytime they...

Dead leg problem? Outside tap removal, but pipes are underground...

Thanks for the reply and also for pointing that out. Lead pipe? Oh dear. Well that would give a much stronger case for tracing back underground and getting rid of it properly if so. Is there an easy way to tell whether or not t's lead? Would a clean up be enough to tell visually?
