How tightly should lead flashing be dressed to a NOT flat old stone wall?

Hi all I've finished installed soakers to my slate roof at a wall abutment, and I've cut the chase above ready for the flashing. The chase isn't mega straight, especially the bottom line This is mostly due to bits of stone and mortar falling away. And partly lack of skill ;) On top of that...

Best way to remove just a double row of slates (vertical row)?

OK, thanks for confirming. Have got code 4 so will use that. Really sorry, but I don't follow you. Would you mind explaining? Many thanks

Best way to remove just a double row of slates (vertical row)?

I've got the slates off and my battens are only 35mm wide, so I don't think my head nailing idea is a very good one. I'm going to use tingles where the roof cannot be seen from below. Is it usual to use code 3 or 4 for lead tingles? Cheers

Best way to remove just a double row of slates (vertical row)?

That makes sense, thank you. But due to inexperience and time restraints I think I'm going to stick with just removing a couple of vertical rows. On the plus side, the roof is not that visible. And it is quite sheltered and well protected from bad weather. I've got some more questions if...

How to detail soakers and flashing where a roof extends beyond the abutment wall (at lowest point)?

Thanks so much for mocking that up. You've been a great help and only hope I can return the favour one day! Cheers

How to detail soakers and flashing where a roof extends beyond the abutment wall (at lowest point)?

Many thanks for all your help with this. In photo 2 I'm pretty sure there was nothing else there, the lead was just upturned a bit neater than how it looks now. The difference was that the wall was rendered, so the gap you see between the uPVC and wall (now filled with plastic) was taken up...

Best way to remove just a double row of slates (vertical row)?

Hi folks Following my recent threads, I've started work today and am removing slates at a wall abutment to put in lead soakers and flashing. Am I missing something obvious or is my only option to use a slate ripper and then use tingles (or hooks) when I put them back on? I had planned to...

How to detail soakers and flashing where a roof extends beyond the abutment wall (at lowest point)?

Just thinking about this again... Presumably because the lead has come down the diagonal wall, when I wrap it round the corner to the other wall it will have to continue to be diagonal down that wall too. Would you then cover that with another small bit of straight/horizontal lead so it's in...

How to detail soakers and flashing where a roof extends beyond the abutment wall (at lowest point)?

OK - I'll see if I have some uPVC that's big enough to replace what's there in pic 1 and to put in place for pic 2. And then just dress to lead over the very top of it to prevent any water getting in behind? Interesting you should say that. I was going to save this for another time but...

Is 1f roof felt ever green in colour?

I suspected as much, thanks for confirming and explaining. Bl00dy builders merchants!

Is 1f roof felt ever green in colour?

At a risk of getting chucked of the forum for over posting, I'm back again! Delivery for my roof job came while I was at work. Home now and just looking at it and the 1f felt they've delivered is unmarked and green. Don't know if I'm over worrying, but wanted to check it's 1f and I've not...

How to detail soakers and flashing where a roof extends beyond the abutment wall (at lowest point)?

I think that makes sense. And I know what you mean - these things are hard to explain! Perhaps someone might have an example photo from work they've done or even from their own house. So if I've understood correctly... - Turn the flashing 90 degrees so that it bends round to the main house...

How to detail soakers and flashing where a roof extends beyond the abutment wall (at lowest point)?

Many thanks for the reply, but not sure I follow that. Also, maybe I didn't explain things clearly? So I've got some photos in case my description made no sense! Ignore the plastic, turned up lead, hessian, etc. Hopefully can still get an idea of what's going on even with that cr@p in the...

Cordless Angle Grinder for chasing stone wall? Plus can I use a mortar rake with stone?

Thanks for the helpful info and the warnings. All great to know. That's good to hear too. 8-10mm would be ideal, so I'll do some practice cuts first using a 6.4mm disc and see what actual width I end up with. If its wider as you suggest, then I'm good to go. But I'll get an 8mm disc too in...

Cordless Angle Grinder for chasing stone wall? Plus can I use a mortar rake with stone?

Thanks for taking the time to do that - very kind of you @lostinthelight :) That's good news then. Does beg the question why the manual states a 6.4mm max. thickness. Safety margin perhaps? or some other reason? Guess we'll find out if my 8mm thick disc spins off into the ether!

Cordless Angle Grinder for chasing stone wall? Plus can I use a mortar rake with stone?

Thanks @Mike13 Looking at your model (the cordless, right? But perhaps the spindle size would be the same as the corded...) do you think an 8mm thick blade would safely fit? Or if anyone reading has the Parkside 125mm Corded - or a Makita - would there be any chance of doing me a favour and...

Cordless Angle Grinder for chasing stone wall? Plus can I use a mortar rake with stone?

Hi all I've whittled down my choice to a Makita or a Parkside which will be in Lidl stores from Thursday. I can't start until next week and was just reading up on them. I found that: - The Makita manual says that the maximum disc thickness is 6.4mm. - While the Parkside says 3mm!!! Is...

How to detail soakers and flashing where a roof extends beyond the abutment wall (at lowest point)?

Hi all I'm going to be stripping slates and putting in new lead soakers with a flashing next week. It's a stone wall, so the flashing will be a straight diagonal line, parallel to the top of the roof. At the bottom, the roof extends beyond the wall by a few inches. What's the normal way...

Angle Grinder - Wattage, Button/Trigger, and Recommendations?

Many thanks all. And yes, got my PPE all ready thanks. The Parkside is in this weeks deals by the looks of things. And looking at the grinder in more detail, it ticks all of my boxes, and some boxes I didn't enough know needed ticking!!! The design features are amazing. But will it...

Angle Grinder - Wattage, Button/Trigger, and Recommendations?

That looks good - thank you very much! How does Lidl work? Does that mean it is in stores for this week? Or do I have to wait for it to come round? Generally I find Parkside seems to get good reviews, for the price point. Thanks again
