stubborn toilet block with unusual symptoms

I don't think I have one, does everyone? Is it an internal feature or something I'd see on the outside?

stubborn toilet block with unusual symptoms

I am dealing with a toilet with a stubborn partial blockage (i.e. very slow draining) which easily becomes a full blockage with too much waste. However, it has a curious characteristic in that, when allowed time to drain, the water in the bowl empties almost completely, i.e. goes much lower...

    Pressure drops but no leak

What about it, a leak of some kind? There's definitely no water leaking. By the way, a plumber and I looked around for this "pressure vessel" once but couldn't find it anywhere. How big is it, could it be hiding in insulation? Header tanks are easy to spot, but not this.

    Pressure drops but no leak

Hello. This heating system keeps seeing pressure drops (down to zero) every few months but now increasing in frequency. It can be successfully re-pressurised with the filling loop, but then drops again over a period of time. There are absolutely no discernible leaks, inside or outside the...

    CH expansion tank overflowing

Hello. I have an old backboiler with the typical tanks in the loft (HW and CH) and a cylinder in the bedroom (vertically between the boiler and the header tanks) The CH expansion tank is continually overflowing: > water level is at the overflow point > a steady drip out of the plastic overflow...

Screwing flashing to corrugated roof - screws only to battens?

I was thinking of trying this sort: Yes, twinwall.

Leak in ceiling, stopped by itself

UPDATE: After pulling some floorboards up, I found... a nail through a pipe. This was in an area I hadn't worked on since I owned the house, so it had been there for quite some time. So there we go!

Screwing flashing to corrugated roof - screws only to battens?

I am flashing a woodburner flue in a garden building. The roof is bitumen corrugated stuff, screwed down onto battens in the usual way. The flashing needs to be siliconed and screwed, but surely there will be no purchase on the screws where they go into the roof alone, and not also into a...

Leak in ceiling, stopped by itself

Slightly different question, any tips on getting a plumber to visit? I have phoned 11 now, including four "emergency" ones and none are interested/available. No one even bothered to offer a ridiculous price! Is there a secret password I need to know, haha...?

Leak in ceiling, stopped by itself

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I had another look today (it's not in my own house) and am absolutely sure there are no overflow pipes in the vicinity. I did, however, find half a dozen slow drips from various joints all around the hot water cylinder (located on the first floor. The leak came...

Leak in ceiling, stopped by itself

Is it possible, at least, that a "leak" can flow like that and then stop by itself? A leak as in a "hole" in a pipe or joint. Or does this suggest it's got to be some kind of overflowy sort of thing?

Leak in ceiling, stopped by itself

The boiler is downstairs, there's no tap or toilet or any other water upstairs, apart from the hot water tank and its pipework. The only pipe in that whole area is for the CH, I'm almost certain.

Leak in ceiling, stopped by itself

There was a sudden and fairly strong flow of water through the ceiling (downstairs), mostly through the ceiling rose hole and a line of damp visible either side of it. After a minute or two it slowed to a drip, and then almost stopped. There are central heating pipes in the region of the leak...

Does an oven wiring require BC notification?

Materials are listed to the penny (£34.38, but I think I could price them for £5 or so - whatever) and labour at a nearest-ten-pounds figure. The other two items are then £20 each. The quote overall is 50% higher than two others I received, BUT he is the only one so far willing to work with my...

Does an oven wiring require BC notification?

I have a quote to wire up an electric oven to an existing CU. The quote is broken down into materials, labour, and then an extra £40 for "issue of minor electrical works certificate" and "notification to Building Control in order to comply with Part P of the Building Regulations" I hadn't...

Is this CU still alright, usable?

"Whoever told you that ccu is ok to use should be reported to trading standards or the governing body they are part of ie NICEIC. With new regulations this would need to be changed for you to be able to install a new cooker circuit." ;) *shrug*

Is this CU still alright, usable?

That's two sparkys so far, I will speak to one more but then have to conclude that in real life no one will touch it!

Is this CU still alright, usable?

Thanks for all the interest, guys! Mixed opinions, then, but a second local spark is refusing to touch it, indeed saying that whoever told me it's ok should be reported to trading standards, haha! I will try to look for a brand name this evening to satisfy your curiosity about it.

Is this CU still alright, usable?

Youngish chap, maybe late 20's. Nice guy and I've used him before for something at a different property. Various people have seen this CU since I've lived here and have had all sorts of opinions on it, at both extremes.
