    Spring snapped twice!

That's a wise move, Harry. But is it not the case, generally, that all manufacturers have purposely downgraded the quality of springs over the last few years or so? Not sure where I heard this but it might have been the high-priest of clickbait, Scotty Kilmer.

    EV are they worth it?

Just plug it into the charger in the evening and should be easily topped-up by the morning. What is the problem?

    EV are they worth it?

On the other hand perhaps they are?

How do you know what needs doing each year at a service?

Well that will prove useful when a UK engine succumbs to premature bearing failure. Sorry, but I smell bullshit. Motorists that ensure that their oil is changed at 5,000 miles intervals will substantially encounter fewer problems than the 10,000+ adherents.

Anyone able to identify these two birds?

    Thanks, Mottie. Excellent and incisive.

Anyone able to identify these two birds?

Sorry for the quality of this pic - it was taken on a Samsung phone albeit with the telephoto option. Presumably you can enlarge pic at expense of resolution. This pair were spotted in the garden yesterday evening. I noticed the smaller one (on the left) first, as it was on its own checking out...

    Ins. (not)

When your insurance comes around next year you might consider giving LV a try. They are highly rated by Which? and for many, though not the most keenly priced, they were very competitive for my late dad who was still driving at 92.

    FIAT nightmare.

Would this not be a situation where a Helacoil thread repair kit might be deployed? I understand that they are not highly thought of but given the lack of alternatives here, would it not be worth a shot?

    Blackcircles : on-line tyre purchases

Well this comment covers the same ground - pardon the pun. ;) I became aware of this a couple of years ago when helping a friend buy new tyres for her old 190e. I am unable to recall the make of tyre but they were about as 'premium' as you could obtain for a thirty-year old vehicle. It was...

    Blackcircles : on-line tyre purchases

It would appear, then, that it is quite legal for the tyre retailers to have their produce sitting on their shelves for up to five years and still be able to sell as 'new'. Perhaps the wiser choice might be to go for a recently released model of tyre, albeit of renowned brand. It would largely...

    Car insurance claim

I have been with one of those quaint high street brokers for years. I reckon I would have paid a little over-the-odds for this but remain unenthused about the proliferation of irritating comparison sites. If I see another meerkat I will layout some poison. But this year my premium was going to...

Insuring vehicle for MOT (revisited) – Car sat stationary for 10 years passes MOT with no advisories!

So why don't folk just book their MOTs at places where they ONLY carry out tests, then? Surely if an MOT centre is a repairing garage also, there are unlimited opportunities to 'create' business?

Insuring vehicle for MOT (revisited) – Car sat stationary for 10 years passes MOT with no advisories!

That surprised me, too, John. I looked only at a couple of the tyres and the treads looked to be remarkably good considering, but I always thought that he examiner would take more notice of the date stamped on the tyre wall and fail the car on this issue alone. I would still be looking to...

Insuring vehicle for MOT (revisited) – Car sat stationary for 10 years passes MOT with no advisories!

Well it is just over 5 years ago that I raised this issue on an old friend’s behalf via this illustrious forum. As expected, I received some compelling advice which, if it were my vehicle, would have acted upon. Characteristically, my old mate did nowt, so the motor sat collecting dust in the...

    MX 5 laid up

Thanks, Freddy, that's very interesting. He does state specifically that a car will cause no problems weight wise. t is certainly a very thorough job though he will be using the room for storage and a couple of exercise appliances etc.

    MX 5 laid up

Family heirloom. Despite that I am thinking of placing it in the dustbin as it curls up in the most inelegant way whenever I drive in or out of the garage. Yes, vinyl is much more practical, though, for anything a bit mucky I sometimes use those tarpaulin covers obtainable from that...

Here is one I did earlier. There are axle stands but they are out of vision. No disparaging remarks about carpet, thank you.

    MX 5 laid up

No, not really, I was just curious as to the anticipated method being deployed here. From my perspective, I would be following the directives as specified in the workshop manual re the vehicle jacking points - a relatively straightforward endeavour, as I have a double garage. Axle-stands have...
