    Engine Oil

Thanks, Mottie. So they ain't genner pop when the coolant freezes, are they? Very interesting. I guess those sparkplug wells are not the only ones that suffer from this sort of design, though. That pair of twin-draught Webers, were you able to tune them yourself? Some folk seem to be...

    Engine Oil

I must have seen the cam-covers as two cylinder heads. The bigger image helps, thanks...along with my reading specs. :) Good pic, though. Are those chrome CH nuts called acorns? Also what is the purpose of the female nuts between the plugs?

That looks like a V8, John. Are you sure you did not intend to show this?

    cars and lockdown

Already noticed quite a few rescue services attending to vehicles with cables linked to batteries in the neighbouring streets. Presumably the AA and RAC will be inundated over the ensuing weeks as (if?) lockdown is lifted. One would imagine that the battery charger industry will hitting some big...

    Audi 1.4 COD engine.

Well it certainly pushes out some power…140 bhp from a 1 litre 3 cylinder mill. But given that the service intervals are around 15k then that 7 years starts to look optimistic. What sort of state is the oil going to be in when it has been repeatedly blasted through its turbocharger as it...

    Audi 1.4 COD engine.

Yes, my pal has a new Fiesta Ecoburst which has this. The problem here, though, surely, is that you cannot even inspect the belt as it is effectively an internal part? At least with a conventional cambelt you can visually inspect the thing.

    Mk2 Kuga Powershift (title edited)

That said, I am pretty sure matey wisely extended the warranty to 5 years though this had to be paid for separately. Probably a worthwhile move. Think I'd be looking to sell after four years assuming everything worked OK. I suppose one way to mitigate the hugely optimistic maintenace schedule...

    Mk2 Kuga Powershift (title edited)

In view of the ‘something’s gonner break’ philosophy regarding modern automotive technology perhaps this would account for the increasing trend of car leasing as opposed to outright purchase. This is not, of course, just applicable to gearboxes but engines like those small three cylinder...

Kitchen mixer with pull-out spray - compliance with Water Regs?

Guys, just to convey my thanks for some very interesting comments. Suffice to say I persuaded matey to return the said mixer and obtain a straight forward, no messin' Franke job, sans extendable hose. I remain amazed that they can get away with selling this sort of thing. Thanks, again. :)

Kitchen mixer with pull-out spray - compliance with Water Regs?

A friend of mine has bought one of those kitchen mixers with a pull-out spray and has asked if I can install it. I took a cursory look at the instructions and have read the following. It could be a criminal offence to use this tap with water supplied by a Water Company. (The supply pipe is...

    Mk2 Kuga Powershift (title edited)

Not sure that this is entirely related to Keith's transmission saga in the Kuga but this guy Steve Lehto ponders the legal implications of 'Ford's dual clutch nightmare'. The smell of a US class action appears to be in the air (depending on time constraints). Some of the comments below are...

    Yaris: Replacing drive-belt issue

Hi guys Would anyone have any recommendations for this seemingly minor problem? I am trying to replace the auxiliary drive-belt on a Toyota Yaris 2002. The pivot bolt underneath the alternator has been completely slackened as has the lockbolt on the adjuster mechanism but despite this no...
