    Arch repair

I’m a bit concerned that it’s only the plaster that’s holding it up, will need to Akrow it .... What do you mean safety issue?

    Arch repair

Evening all, Firstly I’m so sorry for all the posts, the kitchen utility project is a graft on my tiny brain. Anyway after investing a small crack in utility I’ve found a wopping crack in an old archway which seems to be held up by a bit of timber and the inch thick plaster. Structurally...

    Ventilation for loft conversion

Ok cool.... BC are pretty leanient with older buildings though tbh. Just curious but if it’s already a room then how come you need to reinforce the floor beams?

    Ventilation for loft conversion

I’ve got a breathable membrane and was told the gap was mandatory but hey ho. If it’s already a room then I think you still need building control approval as it changes a thermal element? Anyway I assume the room has side walls? you need to insulate these too. You could probably get away with...

    Gas main / water main

Looks like I need a new water main fitting but the logical place will enter the property about 300mm from the gas and electric main. According to the regs there has to be an underground 350mm clear radius but what about over ground when it rises up? If the main comes through the wall to here...

    Ventilation for loft conversion

Airflow needs to be retained between the rafters, so leave a gap between celotex and roof tiles, think its 25mm min.... You will also need to insulate between the floor joists and purlin walls. I assume you know it can't be an habitable room until it's signed off by BC

    Service channel behind coving ...

Some might argue that boxing in take more thought than drilling a hole so is therefore more complicated but I won’t be so pedantic :p

    Service channel behind coving ...

Complicated / involved ... same thing really? It's quite simple, my electrician needs to run some cables so I'm trying to minimise the disruption to the rest of the house by creating some small voids. It won't be as lavish as this but something like this on a smaller scale? Do these not...

This one about getting rather involved

    Service channel behind coving ...

Ok not "every" floorboard but I will need to drill every joist and there's a lot... it would also mean moving some wardrobes and a really heavy bed lifting some recently fitted LVT flooring too AND the floor level from the main house to the rear wing also drops by two steps so I've got that to...

    Low Water Pressure

Just had south staffs out ..... I’ve got 45l min at the road before it comes in next door and 10l min at my kitchen sink! Mi assume this means either the lead pipes are calcified or there’s something been done next door. Looks like a new main ‍♂️

    Service channel behind coving ...

Think that applies to pretty much every single cable in my house.

    Service channel behind coving ...

Appreciated ... but there's also cables chased into the walls all over the place. I'd say from a risk point of view there's less chance of drilling the coving than the wall? These are pretty much the same "no no" concerns as I read in the other thread. Why would it get complicated to clip and...

    Service channel behind coving ...

Forgive my inexperience here but how is it any different to it being run in the floorboards other than airflow?

    Service channel behind coving ...

Just planning how to best to rewire that wing of the house from the new sub-board (wing sounds posh but it's really not, although it used to be an 8 bedroom house that was split in two so it is quite large) ... In a nutshell all the sockets as well as an outbuilding are currently on a radial...

    Low Water Pressure

Thanks you .. that's pretty much where I'm at. I have South Staffs coming today so let's see what they say at the road.

Steel channel? I assume your concern is someone drilling the cable rather than overheating?

    Service channel behind coving ...

I searched the forum and read a few posts saying it was a daft idea as it would be difficult to get at the cables if required etc? Are there any heat issues if this subboard 16mm cable is run in this void?
