    Copper pipe - testing

Is there a standardised test/protocol for this kind of test? What equipment is needed? what scale & how precise should the pressure gage (scale) be? How long should it be left under pressure? Should it be pressurised with water or with air?

Original vs Aftermarket vs Reconditioned - Plate Heat Exchangers

You've touched on a significant consideration here. (Again - this thread is meant to be an exploratory discussion). If pin holes or small corrosive defects in the plate occur - would the CH and Tap water mix? Could CH Inhibitor + some magnetite find its way into tap water? Would that be...

Original vs Aftermarket vs Reconditioned - Plate Heat Exchangers

There are a variety of methods used to unblock and clean the plates. (This is part of exploring the topic): Some use ultrasonic baths - with system descaler. Others have custom rigs that essentially powerflush the plates. One of the suppliers I talked too - does not use any chemicals of any...

Original vs Aftermarket vs Reconditioned - Plate Heat Exchangers

Looking to open up a discussion - purely to learn / discover something new. The point of this thread is to explore the topic. When a Plate Heat Exchanger (PHEx) is blocked - one obvious option is to clean out the unit (spirit of salts etc) & then refit. What are members thoughts about...

    Boiler Situation - cause?

I'll say this - the boiler is 10 years old. In a hard water area, if the plate has lasted 10 years, then thats a good run.

    Boiler Situation - cause?

Nope - it's one or the other. But when tap is opened - boiler locks out after a short time.

    Boiler Situation - cause?

Thanks for your guidance. It's genuinely appreciated. The PXE needs replacing. Agreed. To be Actioned. Consider it done. I'm asking fellow members of the community - that once this is done - is there any chance it could still be something else - e.g diverter valve. If so - before the PXE is...

    Boiler Situation - cause?

Question: What signs would You look for to rule out - a diverter valve failure/malfunction. (CH can be on all night - no problem. But when the kitchen sink hot-water/shower is turned on - the water is hot for a few minutes - then all of a sudden it goes cold. The boiler has locked and the temp...

    Boiler Situation - cause?

I think i'll have the gas safe chap remove the plate and refit it. I don't like touching the boiler myself, as it's in the family house. Any small error - could have serious consequences. However, once he hands me the PXE - can you help me understand how to clear it out? What would I need? What...

    Boiler Situation - cause?

Makes sense. Given that it's likely blocked & there's no system filter - is it more likely being scale or CH sludge or both?

    Boiler Situation - cause?

Yup - only issue is when hot water is turned on. Funny thing is that the hot water pressure is good - but cuts off after about 4/5 min. So basically it looks like the PHE is clogged/scaled up. Could it be the thermistor? (Because CH can work for hours without issue - does that help rule it out?)

    Boiler Situation - cause?

Main Combi 25 Eco There is no system filter. 3 rads - whole install (pipes & rads) were new at the time. About 8 yrs old. Hard water area. Central heating can be on for hours - no real issue. But, If I then turn thermostat off - as I am going to have a shower - and turn the shower on (hot) -...

    Recommendations - Guttering

Polypipe does seem to be mentioned more frequently in posts on the forum. For me - The thickness & finish of the plastic components, the strength of any brackets & very importantly - the quality of the seals, are what its all about. Floplast seem to be having supply issues at the moment due to...
