Using an expanding foam gun upside down/limited space?

And I meant to say my plan is compression (and preferably foam) fit then when in place either fix thin batons across the joists every so often or use nails (Board I've ordered is a tiny bit deeper than joist depth - should project fractionally below joists...batons should give a snug fit - but...

Using an expanding foam gun upside down/limited space?

Thanks I had forgotten about eco wool - would be nicer to handle ... but looking at the k rating and the depths supplied I would have a lesser but similar problem - it would have to hang down under the joists a bit (or be compressed) to get a decent U value - so it would reduce the crawl space...

Using an expanding foam gun upside down/limited space?

Going to insulate under my suspended floor with kingspan boards (I have dithered for ages ...I know expensive etc but limited crawlspace so rockwool would be really nasty to do and thickness to give a decent uvalue would make any future underfloor work unpleasant too -and I can't easily take...

    Black & Decker Scorpion Saw

I think you have... I've had a scorpion for years and ebay is the best place for the blades but they are still not cheap ...I wouldn't buy a scorpion again because of that... IME Sawing green wood/branches etc kills the blades...and they are pretty bad at it...lots of sticking and...

    Loft Insulation, downlighters and LEd

I have had 'LED downlighters' fitted in my bathroom and now want to sort out the insulation in the attic.... (I thought that meant they came as a unit but have realised they are 'normal' downlighters with LED bulbs fitted...feeling a bit stupid now! Electrician said I 'don't need to...

Hot water problems -boiling kitchen, luke warm bathroom

I will try both .... I don't think it is cold getting into hot in the pipes ...when heating was installed and hot water went onto mains pressure the hot water plastic pipes in the bathroom failed at the joints - flew off spraying water everywhere - we had the hot water off at the boiler until...

Hot water problems -boiling kitchen, luke warm bathroom

Sorry... children easter hols distraction...but still could do with sorting this out ... Thinking about this....if I turn the rate at which the water flows into the boiler down for the hot water... Then turn the isolator on the kitchen tap up ..and the ones on the bath and basin maybe leave...

Hot water problems -boiling kitchen, luke warm bathroom

Thanks but unfortunately it is the bathroom basin too ....that was where I was trying to get a jug of hot water from! We have a separate shower in the bathroom which is a thermostat one (Mira) but isn't designed for a combi. At first the heating engineers who put the central heating in...

Hot water problems -boiling kitchen, luke warm bathroom

Ok - that was a bit of faff ...(first attempt bucket overflowed!) Did it for 30 secs and got just less than 8lt - so approx 16 lt/per min (maybe slightly more than that - coordinating tap, timer and bucket probably lost a second or so at start) I never turn tap full on to run bath - usually...

Hot water problems -boiling kitchen, luke warm bathroom

Sorry cross post ...what do you mean that the water pressure is too high for the combi? (I know it was the highest lt per min hot water I could get at the time - so 12 or 15Lt????) I can't do a bucket now - might wake children up ...but can try tomorrow - do I turn the taps fully on?

Hot water problems -boiling kitchen, luke warm bathroom

I keep trying to get it warmer by reducing the flow upstairs but it seems to then not to be enough to get it to fire up - so it goes cold - the jug was in the bathroom basin - so 15mmm taps.... (actually kitchen tap seems to run fast enough ...but know that isn't fully turned on at its isolator...

Can anyone explain this to me Worchester Bosch 35CDII combi boiler - about 10 years old. Had a few bits replaced in last year....(including a valve to heat exchanger (IIRC) and external expansion vessel)- settings will have been changed - I think maybe water feed pressure increased (we have v...

Advice needed on new extenison cable reel...how much choice?

Looking at screwfix ones and some of them have on/off switches on the reels - fantastic! Will have to have a closer look (was looking at toolstation)... Don't want one with a RCD plug - they are too big ...that's how I wrecked my outside socket in this house...I was trying to plug a circuit...

Advice needed on new extenison cable reel...how much choice?

Thanks -so looking at lots of reels online they don't say coiled/uncoiled - they say they have a maximum load of 3120 watts - so if I understand that means a 1600 watt hoover, 550w drill and 11 w bulb would be fine on one of these if fully uncoiled... but not coiled if can only take 10% load...

Advice needed on new extenison cable reel...how much choice?

Not sure if this shouldn't be in electrics but ... I had a good quality professional 40m one - old though so no thermal cut out. Someone (not me!) managed to overload it (an electric convector heater) -the coils all melted together.. :( Need a new one -with thermal cut out :) but got all...

    Loft boarding and celotex/kingspan

I know this has been covered a thousand times but have just read a couple of things that made me wonder if I can do what I planned to.... Current loft done on a grant with rockwool to current regs for previous OAP owners ...no boarded storage area. Want an easy solution ...so in central area I...

Have a joiner lined up to fit the kitchen and a few other jobs - so got a kitchen quote from Howdens on his account...so I probably could get doors from Howdens through him... (I thought you were having a dig about why I posted on paint/decorate forum rather than windows and doors  -...

    Replacement windows, cost of?

Feeling a bit ripped off - I just paid £7k for 9 windows, one back door, side panels for front door and patio doors for our new house ...guess the patio doors were over £1k though... (did get 3 quotes -this was middle - top was £10k, lower 2 were within a few hundred of each other... all local...

    Paint or replace doors?

I don't think I want to spend too much on new doors at the moment - have children heading close to teenage years ...expecting door slamming, kicking etc as hormones fly (have memories of one of my then teenage brothers breaking the original, pre-Victorian, non-standard size door at my parent's...
