No Voltage on Wires in Light Switch

That's my suspicion also. Is there a test I can do? JH

No Voltage on Wires in Light Switch

Ok, I took these pics before I uninstalled the light switches. Both of them are 2-Gang and 2-Way. In the images, the Working Top and Working Bottom show the switch which is now working with my new smart switch. It shows 2 wires in each of the Live and X (switched live) terminals. The NotWorking...

No Voltage on Wires in Light Switch

The old switch had Live, C and X as labels on the switch. Black was in C. Brown in Live. Grey in X. I've tried to wire it up the same way on another switch with the same markings but still no voltage shown anywhere while hooked up. JH

No Voltage on Wires in Light Switch

Right. On the none working switch, it's got 2 sets of wires. Each set has: Live (Brown), Switched Live (Grey) and Com (Black). So no Neutral. There's also an Earth wire connected to the back of the box. When testing, I put one probe on the Earth screw and the other touching all the wires in...

No Voltage on Wires in Light Switch

I hooked up the other light switch properly and its working. I also took the whole switch apart and separated all the wires in their own choc blocks but still no voltage at the other switch. So whether the first switch is connected or not connected, the other 2-way switch is still not showing...

No Voltage on Wires in Light Switch

One of my 2-Way switches was intermitent and didn't work many times. Today, I opened it up and tested each wire with my multimeter for AC Voltage. No wire showed any voltage. Is there a fix for this or does it mean having to rip wires out the wall? JH

    Installing a Smart 2-Way 2-Gang Switch

No, that was the downstairs switch. Right now, my upstairs and downstairs passage switches are on 2 circuits (2 different breakers). My 3-gang and 1-gang are configured so that the 2 way switch within the 3-gang has no wires in it. I was instructed to remove the grey and black wires and leave...

    Installing a Smart 2-Way 2-Gang Switch

Thats what the guy at Lightwave told me to do. Because of the single L terminal on the Lightwave switches, it had to be interlinked. JH

    Installing a Smart 2-Way 2-Gang Switch

No, two separate breakers. But now, because of the way I have wired them to make them work, all three breakers need to be off for me to work on them.

    Installing a Smart 2-Way 2-Gang Switch

Yes, its an identical 2-gang switch but can be used for 1-way or 2 way. How do I stop it tripping while being on 2 different circuits? You can have two lightwave switches on different circuits and still have it be 2-way. I've done this downstairs with my 3-gang and 1-gang. It does work. Just...

    Installing a Smart 2-Way 2-Gang Switch

I have a set of lights upstairs and a set of lights downstairs. There is a 2-gang switch at the bottom and a 2-gang switch upstairs. So both switch locations allow me to control both upstairs and downstairs with the 2-way 2-gang setup. Both upstairs and downstairs are on different circuits...

Live & Dead Wires in Light Switch

Spoke with Terry on the phone and managed to sort out this simple problem. It was a matter of putting both live wires into the L terminal and the other 2 into the X terminals, but crucially, using a new lightwave switch because I may have burnt out the other one with my incorrect wiring. Thanks...

Live & Dead Wires in Light Switch

You mentioned the light going on. How can there be a light when they're all terminating in connector blocks? JH

Live & Dead Wires in Light Switch

Correct. They all work with me old light switch but cause problems with the new light switch. I don't know if its jus the bulbs I have (standard dimmable GU10) or if its the wiring. JH

Live & Dead Wires in Light Switch

If i connect them all into connector blocks, how can any light be connected? How can any light come on? JH

Live & Dead Wires in Light Switch

    After I connect them like this, I should simply check which ones show a reading on the multimeter? if so, I don't get this part: A=[ 2 ] B=[ 1 ] C=[ ] D=[ ] E=[ ] or A=[ bed ] B=[ ] C=[ bed ] D=[ bath ] E=[ ] Can you elaborate on what this means? JH

Live & Dead Wires in Light Switch

I have single connector blocks like you see in the image. Will that do? What do you mean by 1/2 or bed and bath? How do I connect one with the other? JH

Live & Dead Wires in Light Switch

I’ve put the old switch back on for now and will start working on another 2-way switch. stay tuned

Live & Dead Wires in Light Switch

Ok this wiring with both lives in the X terminal and the non lives in the Live terminals has put all the lights on, but when I switch them off, they just dim down and don’t shut off. Seems like dim is the new off for the tests I’ve been doing.

Live & Dead Wires in Light Switch

They are both on the same fuse. It’s the same circuit. inhave now swapped the blue with the browns and still one side remains on. See image.
