    Dereve Governor Regulator

Hi folks. Done a wee search and found part of the answer, but not all of it. Basically, I have lower water pressure than all of my neighbours and I have a pressure regulator on the cold mains coming into the house, just after the stopcock. The bathrooms have thermostatic mixers which are...

    Smart Devices Longevity

Very true, but for things like switches and sockets, what more could you be looking for other than on and off? I'd be pretty ****ed if I spent £100s putting in light switches and smart sockets only to find some of them stopped functioning a year or so down the line.

    Smart Devices Longevity

Thanks for all the replies. I had wondered if the non-wifi products generally worked without the need for a connection to a third party service. I guess the best way to find out is to monitor the network traffic from the router to see what is being accessed when you control a device.

    Smart Devices Longevity

Thanks for the replies. Most things I use are WiFi so not an issue. It is just whether or not there is a reliance on a third party service for a device to work, other than that supplied by Amazon/Google etc.

    Smart Devices Longevity

Right. I'll try and explain this one as clearly as possible . I'm a big geek. I love smart home products and own an Echo Dot and a Google Home Mini. The next logical step is to install things like smart light switches around the house. However, I have a concern with such devices. Amazon...

    Dry Ridge Query

Also been sent pics from the guy who came round to look at the roof, showing what he felt was abadly done dry verge, which had used the wrong verges and hadn't been attached properly. Seriously cannot win. Between sorting the ridge, verges, few broken tiles and flashing he is asking for...

    Dry Ridge Query

*edit* situation has changed since posting so am going to start a new thread. Can this one please be deleted It's you're favourite unlucky roofing member here with another question . Got our tile roof completely re-done a week ago and the roofer has gone awol after being paid and after strong...

    Garage Conversion Thoughts

I suppose you're right. Next will be figuring out if I'm capable of doing much of the work myself :-)

    Garage Conversion Thoughts

Ok, looking for your views/ideas on this one . My house is technically a bungalow but due to the land, it actually has a basement and a garage below the main building. The garage is a decent size but the only access to it is through the main garage door. We are looking to get a bit more...

    Uncovered Roof Query

That's for another post I fear... Giving the guy a chance, so fingers crossed I don't get burned.

    Uncovered Roof Query

Thanks. That's a relief. Needless to say of course we will get rain and wind, but hopefully less of the latter. Cheers.

    Uncovered Roof Query

Right, I have clearly angered the roofing gods in a former life and am being punished accordingly . Long story short, getting a new tiled roof due to a number of problems with our existing one, covered in another thread. Roofer stripped one side today and got the new membrane down (Permanent...

    Re-roof alternatives

Ok, another update. Have had another roofer out as it's still leaking and we have run out of ideas. The only thing he can see, which sounds plausible, is that although the headlap is a good 85mm or so, the nail hole is situated at such a point that it is sitting on the edge of the capillary...

    Boiler Fan Issue?

Ok, turns out I'm not quite the boiler whisperer. It has started banging when there is hot water demand but after about 30 seconds of the burner going it settles down to near silent. No idea what's going on now.

    Boiler Fan Issue?

And the points go to Ian! Took the fan out to check the Venturi and noticed the lug at the back was bent over so wasn't sitting correctly on the flue assembly. Straightened it up and ensured it locked in when the fan went back in. No more noise. Getting mate to come back out and test the...

    Boiler Fan Issue?

I understand the dangers, don't worry. Whenever a non obvious problem comes up I always find that it's worth asking to help get to a quicker solution rather than waste lots of my mates time. Anything other than checking if something is seated correctly I'd get him round.

    Boiler Fan Issue?

I didn't think I had flame lift, which rules out a few things doesn't it? Any consensus on what the issue could be?

    Boiler Fan Issue?

It's from the main covered area rather than the pipework or electrics below. It disappears completely when you open the case and if you just crack the case open you can hear and feel the air being sucked in.

    Boiler Fan Issue?

Here's a video of it running hot water with the case closed. It actually isn't too noisy there. Been much worse.
