    What's 2%

Puns aside, it shows the remarkable lengths and patience that those perverts who want to abuse children will go to. No one wakes up one day and thinks "I'll abuse a child today" they look to get themselves into positions where they have access to children. BBC article 600 paedos arrested...

    Isolating a Consumer Unit

When I had to have a CU replacement following the failure of the main RCD on my TT supply which also necessitated replacing the meter tails as overheating had occurred, I simply rang my DNO (Scottish Power at the time) explained the situation that we would have to pull the company fuse and...

Soundproofing between maisonettes - sharing costs

The solution proposed looks to be the best of both worlds with an acceptable height gain and a reasonable sound reduction. I am assuming that "Impact uplift" refers to noise directly transmitted through the structure by footfall and furniture moving etc. 15db is a significant reduction. While...

Bosch Dishwasher SGS46E22GB/01 wont fill up.

I had a problem with my Bosch dishwasher where it would not fill. It turned out to be to do with a plastic water reservoir/matrix located behind the left external side panel. This unit had become gunked up as well as the mechanism to detect water in the chassis. I took it out and cleaned it all...

Suitable lumens for a living room - LED bulbs.

I have purchased LED bulbs from LEDhut. I go for the "Warm White" option and have been very pleased. You will probably never quite replicate the tungsten feel but I found them to be quite acceptable. I prefer them to the CFLs as they don't have to warm up. I have been very impressed with the...

How to dim light without using a dimmer

With my tongue firmly in my cheek, you could look at something like this http://www.russandrews.com/product.asp?lookup=1&region=UK&currency=GBP&pf_id=1425&customer_id=PAA0970017414031SHXLYRRIVQBUGIVC

Customer not paying bill in full, what can I do

I agree, chalk it up to experience. I don't think you mentioned how much work was outstanding on the shed. If £90 is a fair price for the outstanding work then it's probably not worth perusing. OK you argue that she didn't give you the opportunity to complete the work, the court looks at the...

    The history of the fusebox?

[/url] From your first set of pics, I assumed that it was a property that had been gutted by fire, though these pics would suggest that it is just filthy, what's the story with that place?

Electrician wants to test entire system before working

For the sake of the OP and not wanting to get too technical, my understanding is that a consumer unit change would require a full test at the end anyway and even though the existing wiring my be safe and conforming to the standard to which it was installed, the CU change will require it all to...

    VAT invoice received

Sounds like they've been caught by HMRC and should have been VAT registered some time ago. Ignore it. They are obviously trying to get customers who are VAT registered to pay the VAT as it is no skin off their noses as they can claim it back. If you're not VAT registered just say no. You...

    Few questions before replacing radiator

Well mystery of what the pipe is solved. It is an additional feed. There are 3 rads in the house which have a feed on both the upper and lower left side. Doesn't answer the question of why though.

    Few questions before replacing radiator

I think there are 2 tanks. Is there any obvious way to nee a Primatic cylinder? I'm going there on Monday and will take pictures.

    Few questions before replacing radiator

I'm not sure, the pipe disappears into the ceiling. I'll take a closer look at the weekend. I can only assume that it is some kind of vent.

    Few questions before replacing radiator

It is a double bedroom, I assumed that the 600 x 1200 was the modern equivalent size. I'm not too bad at soldering. Definitely 3 pipes. The bottom left and right are 15mm T outs from the 22mm ring. The top one a 15mm with wheelhead valve.

    Few questions before replacing radiator

I am going to be replacing a radiator in my mother's house that is showing signs of rusting badly. It is a vented system with a header tank in the loft. I intend to tie of the ball cock (Or isolate if one installed) and then drain the system. I have a few question that I would appreciate some...

    Ban the Burkha?

Where does it stop? If you ban the full face veils, what will be next, ban hoodies. The infringement of state on our personal liberties and freedom is a slippery slope that I would be very hesitant to go down. Recently in the press, a ban was suggested to be un-british and I agree...

    Photography..

Though mentioned earlier, knowing what flash to use is also important. There are several modes. the most common are as follows. Auto Flash. the camera decides if it needs flash and will fire it as necessary. Forced Flash, the flash will go off every time you take a picture. Red eye...
