Buy more glazing bars or use wider sheets and more buttons? First attempt..

Can I hold the whole of the outside edges of a 10mm polycarbonate roof down with buttons? Spend less, and reach over wide sheets to fix it all together? If you have a glass of malt and a Havana  you can get stuck in to details... Question is whether reaching over a 2m panel to...

What does the drop (on apron flashing) actually do? 240mm roll. 12x5.5 pitch polycarb roof?

Thanks for input :) What are bars- 'tall bars'? Good point squashed bugs-ct1, they do a clear I think, but its damn expensive. Chase into render- you mean cut maybe twice lead thickness and feed it in deep into a leadsealant filled chase type thing? And what does drop do? I.e. once the water...

Lean to update, birdsmouth questions and pics.. Windy day!!

I'm with you. I have done other ideotic things and often film them just in case of entertainment value. Too rainy today for camera work... Just got bored, too much coffee, what else is there to do? Smashed up a huge cast iron bath in bare feet once, on film. Horrible mistake. But funny to...

What does the drop (on apron flashing) actually do? 240mm roll. 12x5.5 pitch polycarb roof?

Hi folks, Building a polycarbonate covered lean to that will get some harsh weather over the years- getting lashed right now... I have a roll of lead 240mm deep (6 m long). The pitch is 12x5.5 inch which I thought was pretty steep so thought I would not need so much on the overlap...then I...

Lean to update, birdsmouth questions and pics.. Windy day!!

Never sure how to make sense of a continued thread but with a new question- this is another question from an old post where I asked about a weird lean-to I am building. Anyway- see pics, I have set ledger 6"x2" and eaves beam 6"x2" parallel to eachother and both level. Some advised I do...

Ladders without wide stabiliser? On way out?

Thanks for the recommendation . I bought another recommended brand which was on basis that the rungs are D shaped. Welsh firm- Thomas something. Anyway, it does have the broad bar/ stabiliser at the base and it seems very good quality. The d shaped rungs are great. Glad I went for it as spending...

The Chinese flu outbreak .......wonder why there's panic ?

Quarantined tens of millions of people over less than 100 dead? No. China has a terrible record on its care for its people, so why on earth would they disrupt so much over so few? I imagine it is in fact very large in scale. And with that, and the complexities of modernity, the disruption...

Ladders without wide stabiliser? On way out?

As arborist and later HETAS installer I have some experience of ladders at work. Home use only now, I was thinking I would treat myself to a certain brand that I have liked/trusted. Seems hard to find one without bloody great wide stabiliser bar thing on the base. And they don't come with rubber...

Are extension ladders sold by vertical length?

Looking at a gutter at 5 m. So a good three rungs above would do for our house. I.e., 6.3m So ladders sold at 6.3m for instance the young man trade 200. Is it literally 6.3 m long or do they allow access to that height when at the correct angle?

Basic Polycarb' Lean-to shelter. Timber sizes and no of supports?

Ok. So not sure if I should start a new thread as it's a new question really, but from the same project... Thanks to input so far I am clear on the following.. 5" X 2" rafters will probably do fine. Roofs are more complicated than I thought. A sloping wall plate is beyond my skill and I think...

Basic Polycarb' Lean-to shelter. Timber sizes and no of supports?

Thanks all. What a minefield! Was thinking of twinwall polycarbonate as might look neater and less Hillbilly than the corrugated. Last longer too?. A none square layout with changing pitch would almost certainly be a disaster for me with twinwall as I appreciate the corrugated is a tad more...

Basic Polycarb' Lean-to shelter. Timber sizes and no of supports?

Thanks for your input. :D I struggle to get my head around the appearance of a sloping wall plate as it is very much on show to the road side our place being semi detached on street corner .If understand you correctly we could instead slope the horizonal that the joists rest on at the eaves end...
