The thermostatic shower valve itself acts as a restrictor for the 3bar of cold. You just want a pump which tees into your hot water feed, i assume. Salamander are usually the brand i look for. Assuming you have an electric shower at the minute...? (Just a cold feed...?) Loads of them about -...

Get your boiler manual (or download it..)... check which the ‘flow’ pipe is - coming out your boiler. Turn it off using the isolator. Try and recreate the issue. Sounds like a diverter valve to me - probably worn over the years. It may be servicable but good chance its just a replacement...

From the pics i looked at and a scan of your description - i assumed it was leaking from where the tails entered the tap...? As you say - your options were to lengthen the pipe - longer tails - or put a connector in between the pipe tail and the pipe... Where exactly is it leaking..?

I know this isnt what you want to hear... I had a similar issue with the same shower about a year ago - couldnt get the valve out for love nor money. Called them up to see what i was missing and ended up taking the thing off and replacing it after an hour or so of faffing. Dont know how...
