    Ballpark figure please

Where in Essex are you? I had a 30m2 outbuilding built in 2013, constructed of 6" single skin concrete blocks, a 6" slab of concrete with foundations dug down to 600mm. It has a flat roof with underlay and felt on it. The outbuilding has no running water in it and I did the electrics myself -...

    Long Stud Wall

You'll need to join the studding to the ceiling and floor somehow - how were you thinking of doing this? Have you got access to the ceiling joists and floor joists? You could put noggins into the floor and ceiling between the joists where the studding will go and then screw/bolt the studding to...

    Smoothly decking

^^^^ Fair enough, I found it to get slippery, but I guess it's down to the brand/wood and I guess your deck is better in the rain.

    Smoothly decking

^^^ no, slippery because of the water on the deck. There's no algae on it at all, and the water runs off as there is a gradient but there is still a thin layer of water on top of the deck which makes it very slippery when it rains. You could try a test patch to see how your deck would react to...

    Fitting batons to concrete fenceposts

You could have just used something like exterior no more nails to glue the batons on to the fence posts.

    Smoothly decking

I would be careful. I have a lot of decking in my garden and when it rains, its very slippery, even with the grooves. I'd be seriously careful of using the smooth side.

Plywood gate panel measuring fail... any viable fix?

If you have a welding kit and feel comfortable doing it, get yourself some angle irons/beads and cover the wood and let the iron/bead travel around the hole. If not, then do the same thing but with black plastic angled beading and stick it on with no more nails.

What type of concrete blocks to buy?

What sort of soil do you have in the area where the garage will be built? Also, will it be built next to your house? At the back of the garden?

What type of concrete blocks to buy?

How big will the garage be? How much weight will be pressing down on the blocks? To be honest, the breeze block type blocks always seem to crack and are pretty useless for hanging shelves etc off of. I'd go with the proper concrete blocks and render them on both sides - they're not hugely more...

    Where to get security fixings?

The bars need to be min 20mm in diameter, welded within a 10mm flat plate frame. The frame should have more flat plates within it if it is a large size as thieves use scissor jacks in between the bars to bend them out of the way. Use 8" standard wall anchors going through flanges on the frame...

    Slate Roof Tiles - Coping

Hi all, A while ago I raised the height of the roof on my attached garage. There is a small concrete block wall above the garage door which is rendered on both the front and back. I had a builder over when I raised it and he rendered it for me as a favour. At the time of doing the rendering...

    External Power Sockettap.

Cool - thanks for that. It's either that or I use a longer hose I guess. But thanks again.

    External Power Sockettap.

Good morning all. I have an external power socket at the front of my house enclosed in an IP66 enclosure. I'm looking to install an external tap out there too so that I can wash the car and also wash the front garden with a pressure washer. I wanted to know how much of a gap there should be...

    Electrics and Concrete Floors

Thanks for that, when you say accessory points - what are these? How would I know where they are? How would I find and then use these? The current fuse box is in a cupboard under the stairs. All of the cabling travels upstairs from the fuse box and so I'm guessing that it has been passed into...

    Electrics and Concrete Floors

Hi all, I went to see a house which was for sale yesterday afternoon. Some of the electric sockets are in the wrong places. If I was to buy it, I'd want to change a few of these around. However, when I lifted the carpet to see if there was any access to plumbing pipework, I realised that the...

    Plumbing via concrete floors

Good morning all, thanks for that, really appreciate it. I thought that was a possibility but didn't like the idea of tails dropping from the ceiling and so totally dismissed it. What a total nightmare! No real forward planning with concrete floors is there! The other thing is that I think it'd...

    Plumbing via concrete floors

Hi all, I went to see a house which was for sale this afternoon. The radiators in this house were pretty old and knackered. If I was to buy it, I'd want to change these to the newer upright ones. However, when I lifted the carpet to see if there was any access to the pipework, I realised that...
