    Help with Mirror

I'd try using white silicone to go around the edges to see if you can fill in enough of the area which you don't want to see. Best thing about this is that if it doesn't work, its easy to remove off of of a mirror and is also a cheap and easy way of doing it.

    Damp Proof Injections

Hi all, I've been having major issue with damp patches on an external wall. I live in an end of terrace property and the outside flank wall seems to have a major amount of damp in the middle of the wall - none of the render is loose on the outside. I can't for the life of me work out where the...

Part removal of bottom half of chimney.

You'll need to support it with something or the other. Building regs aren't normally too happy with working the bricks back into a flank wall - especially half way up as it puts a lot more strain on the top half of the wall. You could use gallows brackets with a steel and angle iron in place -...

    Moving a Sewer

Would this still be needed if the manhole has already been built over by the previous owner of the house? My friend bought the house a few weeks ago is wants to extend the current extension. He spoke to me on the phone about the project and referred to the gully as a 'manhole' and hence the...

    Moving a Sewer

No, not going to do anything without the correct consent etc, just need a list of materials so that I can work out a budget for the whole extension. Went over today and had a look at what is going on. There is basically a WC soil pipe which comes out of the first floor bathroom and...

    Dropping a Chimney...

Just have chimney caps fitted. They are sometimes called an Elephant's foot and cost about £40 per cap. Make sure that the fitter leaves a small gap between the cap and the chimney - you need some air flow. Also make sure that you have an air brick fitted to the chimney as well for the same...

    Moving a Sewer

Many thanks for the link - it's very helpful. In most people's experience, what are water company reactions to this sort of thing? Do they kick up a fuss over moving/re-plumbing these drains/sewers? Or are they normally okay with it? At a second glance on this topic, what parts would I...

    Moving a Sewer

Many thanks for this info. When you say water company, do you mean the company that supplies drinking water to the address? As this is a sewage manhole?

    Moving a Sewer

It's actually a house owned by a friend and I've not yet been over to see the house or sewer as it is still occupied by the previous owner of the house. Many thanks for your answers though, that helps a lot. What does the water company normally insist on if it is a shared sewer and how...

    Moving a Sewer

Hi newboy, many thanks for that. the contents seemed quite technical and so before planning anything, I wanted to make sure that I knew exactly what the plans were advising. Apologies, the title is quite confusing. What I wanted to know is, is it better to move the entire sewer run from where...

    Non habitable attic conversion.

If you have the space, have you considered an outbuilding in the garden or something along those lines? It'd be a lot easier and the regulations are a lot easier to work with. It also means that you won't need to mess with the structure of your house?

    Outbuilding Electric Heater

Apologies for bringing this post up again after such a long time but have only just got around to looking into this. Under option (2) above; Can anyone post a link to show what a "'switch fuse' unit" is? Could I use something like this...
