    Outside light.

I have some old outside lights too, I know it's time to replace them, but forget about it in the summer, and too cold to play with them in the winter. As to how to remove yours, I don't know, it would depend on the replacement. I sent wife out shopping for new lamps, she came back with four...

    Fridge/freezer in garage question

I can see a problem with auto defrost, if the water can't drain due to it freezing, so in general auto defrost freezers should not be used in a shed. If no auto defrost, then the shelves are the evaporator, so can't be removed, so not much good for Christmas Turkey. And also the top can get...

    Economy 7 meter

My battery takes around 1.5 hours to charge, and I have 5 hours to charge it in, so start charging at 01:30 instead of 00:30 in case the clock is out makes sense. But where you need more off-peak power, then this is not really an option. I assume we are looking at the old White meter set-up...

Old light switch to wifi light switch

Ok, not using red but brown the guess work is two browns to com (L) and one brown to L1 or other way around, I would test as I have a tester to hand, permeant Line should go to L, but can't see a problem just trying to see which works.

    Iron tripping RCD

The mineral insulation in the element is hygroscopic, if the seal at either end fails it will draw in water, and the only fix is a new element, as to if you can get new elements I don't know.

Timeguard Sure Time 2 Hour immersion water heater.

I have an off-peak supply, so need a timer of some form for the immersion heater, mine also has a current transformer so it uses solar as well.

    Replacing central heating control

I use Google Nest speakers, which are similar to Alexa. I use a mixture of heating controls, it started with Energenie which at the time it said it worked with Nest, which was the next step, it did not work with Nest in any meaningful way, I wanted to have more TRV heads which were programmable...

Using Wiser Smart Heating - seems limited

Wiser works with Google Home, so yes you can use Google Home to control it. I have one problem with Wiser, and not really a Wiser fault as such, my wife's bedroom radiator is on an outside north wall, current 16.5°C, where living room current 20.5°C sunny day today, and the centre of the bedroom...

    Two 2.5mmT&E to a garage?

I used twin 150 mm² instead of a single 240 mm² as I could not physically bend the 240 mm² to fit. I see no difference with smaller cables.

    Shepherds hut electrics

The disconnection under fault conditions is reliant in the main on the RCD, it is unlikely that the loop impedance will be low enough to use any other method. Also, it is very hard to ensure a supply is TN-S, we have to consider any TN supply is TN-C-S which is not permitted with caravans. So in...

    Economy 7 meter

Yes I agree, I was on an EV tariff, and found it hard to work out which time it used, so just used 4 hours out of the 5 to be sure I was on off-peak. I was not charging an EV, just the batteries for my solar, but question if an EV user could charge a car in such a short time. But unlike the...

    Economy 7 meter

It seems Economy 7 is the odd one out, most of the other off-peak supplies, change to BST in summer.

Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 Review – Quiet, Accurate Smart Heating what about the rest?

There are two control methods to control central heating, on/off which gives one a high hysteresis the other method is to turn the heating up/down which is far better a TRV turns the heating up/down, and OpenTherm is up/down, but most wall thermostats turn it on/off.

Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 Review – Quiet, Accurate Smart Heating what about the rest?

Most will not, they turn the power on or off, very few connect to the boiler's e-bus and turn the heat up and down.

Timeguard Sure Time 2 Hour immersion water heater.

No, the switch needs power, it is not bidirectional. So line and neutral "in" need to be always powered.

Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 Review – Quiet, Accurate Smart Heating what about the rest?

That is rare, not like any other wall thermostat, my thermostats both can turn up and down, but the boiler can't, so the OpenTherm option is not used. I don't touch my TRV's much either, neither do I touch the wall thermostat, once the schedule has been set, I just leave them to follow the...

Smart Relay Switch in Place of Old LP522 Programmer

I wish I had enough go about me to do the same as you. I have thought about it, my boiler is on/off only, and I think there are some hidden parts, where the double garage was turned into a flat. So it works well enough for me, so given up adding more controls. Late mother's house had a...

Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 Review – Quiet, Accurate Smart Heating what about the rest?

For the flat under my main house, I have a simple thermostat, bi-metal strip type. And that's fine. But the main house is a lot larger, it would cost a fortune to heat all rooms 24/7, so we heat rooms as required. I would not call Hive simple. And I know it does connect to the TRV heads, I was...
