Outside light.

Have this outside light in my garden. Not working. Can’t seem to dismantle it or remove the bulb holder. Wire not long enough. Have removed the rusty screw. No movement. Any advice.

I have some old outside lights too, I know it's time to replace them, but forget about it in the summer, and too cold to play with them in the winter.

As to how to remove yours, I don't know, it would depend on the replacement. I sent wife out shopping for new lamps, she came back with four, two at £2 each which needed bulbs, one at £4 which was an integral, and one £26

the one I sent her for, and I was not really impressed with the outdoor post light, as it required a bulb, with the base at the bottom, so it is shining up onto a black painted top, so I tried all sorts to reflect the light down again, turned tin foil other way up in the end, but clearly the lamp you have is smashed, and you need to work out what will replace it. This includes any PIR or smart device to switch it on and off.

I use smart bulbs, and smart socket adaptors, I don't like PIR control, always seems to turn off at most inopportune time. Also depends on reason for lamp, decoration or lighting the way?

I am sure you could, with care, hacksaw the post without damaging the cable, but you will need something to replace it with, better to work that out first.

It looks as if it is a plastic light fitting, mounted on a galv steel pole, painted black.....

I would be inclined to try splitting the side of the plastic part vertically, so it can be opened up, to unclip from the pole.

I wonder if the cable to the lamp-holder, could be snipped off, then the plastic part hit in a upwards direction, to remove it?

There are 2 more of these in the back garden. Same galvanised posts. They work on a Dtd sensor and they do work. Not sure why this one is not working!! Any tips please.

So he'd be left with just a pole.

OK - yes I am posting this after seeing his 2nd post with a photo of the intact light, but Scout's Honour, when I saw the first photo I thought "That looks like it should have a globe or cylindrical shade sitting on it but now it's wrecked beyond repair or use."

That one is now scrap. If you get it out you might be able to connect a whole new light to the cable

Have you tried wiggling the pole? Is it just driven into the ground? Concreted in?
