    Balancing radiators and lockshield valve

Is it? I am sure it is part of the reason. But also it controls the speed it heats up at, so the TRV has enough time to close, before it gets stinking hot and causes the room to overheat and start a hysteresis. I found it depends on the make of the valve, I start by opening ¼ turn at a time...

Are these old bulkhead light fittings replaceable with LED?

Before and after with a wire wound ballast, clearly different to how wired in the USA. This has also been shown as the way to wire LED tubes, it will work, but if the tube is fitted wrong way around it is a short circuit, so should not be wired that way.

Are these old bulkhead light fittings replaceable with LED?

That does not seem to be British? I wonder if USA where they use 120 volts 60 Hz? Yes, this is United States, it is not the same in the UK.

Bathroom light flickering with switch in off position

Capacitive and inductive linking can cause lights to stay on dim or flash, but I would have thought the fan would have reduced this, not increased it. So I wonder what makes you think the bathroom lights tripped the RCD, although earths need running to lights, in the main there is little in a...

Are these old bulkhead light fittings replaceable with LED?

There are two types of fluorescent ballast, wire wound, and electronic. With wire wound, you can swap to LED by just replacing the starter with a fuse which comes with the tube, the light output is reduced, and the ballast will waste some energy. So better if the ballast is removed, but you...

DNO refusing solar with G100 0kW export

I would agree with @aesmith my solar is double my consumption in summer, so it does not matter what the battery size is, March to September I am producing more than I am using. For October to February, it is the battery and the off-peak tariff which saves me money. The major problem, both...

Does electrical work as part of extension require notification or is it covered by the a building notice?

It did seem it was one small tick box on the application to if it needed a scheme member electrician or not. If you have said you're using a scheme member, then the completion certificate will not be issued without the compliance certificate. And if you have said not using a scheme member...

    Japanese import?

What side of the road do they drive on? The old Kia had the indicators on the right, so assume they drive on the left, same as us?

    Japanese import?

Interesting if the indicator stork is on right or left? Japan drive on same side as us.

Hive Dual reciever & combi boiler

I know with Wiser, the unit is on all three, but instructions says only for use with single channel, which seems odd. I have seen a picture of the back and there is a central switch to select on/off or opentherm, if that switch does not exist, then can't be used with OpenTherm.

    Help with 4 colour wiring

Red, yellow, and blue, today brown, black, and grey, are the colours used for three phases, but electric does not mind what colour is used, and it is easier to work out what is what when three colours are used. In the main, people use red for line, but which colour is used for switched line or...

Hive Dual reciever & combi boiler

Hive and Wiser both have OpenTherm, the Hive has a little switch to select which mode, can't remember anything I had to switch with Wiser. Since my boiler does not have it, I have not worried about how it is connected.

Hive Dual reciever & combi boiler

I would think Hive is similar to Wiser. The hub can be linked to up to 9 thermostats, be they wall mounted or part of the TRV. It seems the wall mounted thermostat turns the boiler on/off (up/down if using OpenTherm) and the TRV controls each room. But in my case, only four devices can turn the...

    EV charger installation possible?

I remember the Lucas 2TU relay box used for lights on trailers in the 70's. It allowed one to have an independent fuse for the trailer, and worked warning lights for indicators, I seem to remember brakes as well? We had them fitted to mobile libraries, and the fuse was on the dash with all the...

    Veissman boiler radiators going cold

I had a problem with Nest Gen 3, when the local mobile mast got damaged in a storm, as I walked up to the thermostat it would detect my movement and turn on the heating, but as I walked away, it could not see the mobile phone as being local, so the geofencing turned off the heating again. It...

Updating Satchwell TL Thermostat to Honeywell T6360

Note the numbers E234156 one does not expect to find 1 between 4 and 5. Does this help, with terminals moved to where they really are?

Hive Dual reciever & combi boiler

Sorry, not really, if I want DHW only, both pumps are off, and both valves are closed, and thermo-syphon circulates the water to the hot coil. If I want CH then the respective valve opens, and the micro switch in the valve works a relay, and one contact in the relay runs the pump, and the other...

Updating Satchwell TL Thermostat to Honeywell T6360

That should work. If that is correct. But some thermostats do not have the contacts in numerical order.

Hive Dual reciever & combi boiler

I have wondered if the central heating can cool the domestic hot water? I expected as Winter arrived to see the electric used to heat the DHW to drop. Looked a couple of weeks ago, and no real change, but looked today, and yes the electric used is going down. Which is just as well, as very...

Light not working after blown bulb replaced.

Good reason to have a cat flap, at least the cats have a way out to find their own food. But they also seem to think we are hungry, and bring us tip bits, mice, frogs, birds, bats, etc. Worst place I have worked, must be a hospital, in the crawl space, full of fleas. Bring back the carbolic.
