I’d be tempted to saturate the area for 24 hours and then use a clothes iron to try to steam the dent out and encourage the splinters to sit back? Then use glue to stick what’s left back and wrap it with clingfilm/string to see how bad it looks after.

Pallets intended for the EU are treated with Methyl Bromide. Some are only het treated.

You can’t burn all pallets, check the wood for stamps. EUR/EU or MB will release chemicals. Don’t burn painted pallets

You can also run the diverter into blue mdpe pipe and off to a butt. Then fit an overflow to the butt so that any excess water will drain off while the diverter is still able to deliver.

You could just rout it out and fit new timber.. ? Or as above but somehow increase the depth towards the sink then add 1/2 round stainless bars to make a drainer. You could make a sloped sledge to guide the router so the grooved part is deeper towards the sink

What about tempered glass rather than tile? Expansion rates might still be an issue but it can be cut/drilled then tempered and be painted on the reverse before installation.

Couldn’t you use two steel square tubes between the two units? Level with the top and about 100 mm from each front/back edge. Powder coated white or sprayed
