    Micra fuel tank leak

Wrong. AI Overview Learn more Yes, jet fuel is considered volatile, meaning it readily evaporates into vapor, especially when compared to other fuels like diesel, but not as volatile as gasoline; however, compared to other aviation fuels, its volatility varies depending on the specific type...

    Micra fuel tank leak

My guess is your tractor is special. Is it a toy one? All other tractors are diesel. I believe diesel is "heavier" and evaporates differently to petrol. An extremely refined fuel used by planes will go gaseous even faster. Liquid rocket fuel goes gaseous faster still. Faster the burn required...

Someone quoted a US study that proves you wrong.

    Micra fuel tank leak

Not really. The evap system didn't do a single thing for 6 months or more. The built up evaporation jetted out the cap continuously for the same period. Petrol is gaseous in typical environmental conditions, unless pressurised, or frozen.

    Micra fuel tank leak

So, you are none the wiser if I didn't tell you about it. I was assuming you were answering whether an air leak was an MOT fail. But you appear not. The gist of it is I have a pass, unless I tell the tester I have an air leak. Car body shell is in way of the petrol fume "rain". There is nothing...

Hydrogen is a liquid too if given enough pressure.

    Micra fuel tank leak

The information on this china cap reveals various characteristics of the fuel tank, which is likely to be universal. The inner side appears to have some kind of air pressure handling mechanism. Although it could just be part of the clicker device.

    Micra fuel tank leak

Under the designed tank pressure. I think the micra filler cap is designed to release pressure if too high.

    Micra fuel tank leak

No. I have been studying petrol evaporation recently, and how it made the car paint dirty.

    Micra fuel tank leak

How do you know the seal is lacking? The leak is at the top. Why would I clean the bottom?

    Micra fuel tank leak

There are no holes but a potential lack of a full seal at the cap. I too looked for evidence and found leaked petrol deposited on the body paint all around the fill neck door. After cleaning up, nobody would be the wiser.

It's only liquid under some pressure.

    Micra fuel tank leak

How do you tell it can leak? There is no hole other than rust spots that might prevent air tight sealing. The key word is "might". It might not.

    Micra fuel tank leak

No, I have better things to do. I will sand the rust bubbles instead and find ways to prevent the debris going down the neck. Failing the sanding, a new china neck it is.

    Micra fuel tank leak

Did you miss my study of evaporation from a leaky container? The US study does not contradict mine. Their parameters are different.

    Micra fuel tank leak

Many academics are logically challenged. This is why many PhD's have no common sense. The natural state of petrol is gaseous. This is the reason why it evaporates. This is also the reason why the americans call petrol "gas" - they are being more scientifically accurate. All the available...

    Micra fuel tank leak

You missed the point. It did take ages. The micra wouldn't have a big tank to begin with.

    Micra fuel tank leak

Yes, it opened very easily. In fact, so easily I realised there might be a problem. I was investigating a large dirt patch on the body paint around the fill door. Further examination revealed some bubbled up rust where the cap seals might contact the fill neck. This may or may not have opened an...

    Micra fuel tank leak

A leaky container is open air. It's a bit like saying steam only escapes in open air. It doesn't. Steam would push open the pot lid and escape. Same principle for petrol. Steam has a certain pressure, likewise for petrol fumes. When the container isn't able to withstand that pressure, the...
