We can all agree petrol is highly evaporative.
In the open air, in a container - not so much.

What kind of container?
A leaky container is open air. It's a bit like saying steam only escapes in open air. It doesn't. Steam would push open the pot lid and escape. Same principle for petrol. Steam has a certain pressure, likewise for petrol fumes. When the container isn't able to withstand that pressure, the gaseous substance escapes. In the open air, in a container - not so much.
Looks like it.Are we heading for another 30 page nonsense thread?

With your giving up this quickly, we'd be lucky to make it to 3 pages.Well, have it your way then, simply to avoid a 30 pager - despite being wrong.
Yes, it opened very easily. In fact, so easily I realised there might be a problem. I was investigating a large dirt patch on the body paint around the fill door. Further examination revealed some bubbled up rust where the cap seals might contact the fill neck. This may or may not have opened an air leak. If the tank is filled to the cap, it might leak, or might not. But, who fills to the cap to know? Can it, or does it, spill when filled or full ?
In a study conducted by the University of Michigan, it was found that under typical conditions (around 70°F or 21°C), petrol can evaporate at a rate of about 4 ounces (118 milliliters) per day from an open container. So, a gallon (about 3.8 liters) of petrol could potentially evaporate in about 32 days

It did not come over very well but that was my point if it takes 32 days ish for a open container then the tank with such a small leak would take ages
Cheers
You missed the point. It did take ages. The micra wouldn't have a big tank to begin with.Harry Broomfield
