Extractor fan insect mesh insert ?

Thanks for your response. The fan that was removed from the kitchen had a fine mesh on the back of the fan, kind of like a mosquito netting and in the 20 odd years that fan was fitted and in use, it never got blocked. When the fan was removed, other than the yellowing to the plastic and a...

Extractor fan insect mesh insert ?

No, there’s no heat recovery, just extractor fans, which I’ve already removed without disconnecting to see whether it was possible to insert draught shutters

Extractor fan insect mesh insert ?

Yeah, cost are probably higher in long run but I’m the tenant and the HA pay and I don’t have any control as to what product they install, unless I remove what’s already been installed and I replace with my own product, which I don’t really want to do, although I don’t mind fitting the draught...

Extractor fan insect mesh insert ?

Thanks for the suggestion but at £63, not likely, especially that I have two fans, although it does look a far better alternative to the fans which have been installed. It’s an Housing Association property and the new fans have already been installed. The old fan turned on automatically, I...

Extractor fan insect mesh insert ?

No it won’t. I live in a Housing Association flat and the original extractor fan thats just been replaced, has been in use for 20 years and it had a fine mesh screen in between the fan and the tube ducting and, it never got blocked or required cleaning every few weeks, in fact, I’ve never ever...

Extractor fan insect mesh insert ?

I plan to remove the extractor fan myself and insert a back draught shutter into tube, and refit the fan, currently it hasn’t got one. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kair-Connector-Backdraught-Shutter-150mm/dp/B004X4S5UG?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1 I’d like to also add a fine mesh insert of some...

Electric oven element on when switched off…. Belling 644 electric cooker

Yeah, I guess so but the way cookers are designed, with the clock and timer, I’m certain the vast majority, if not all, electric cooker owners, don’t turn their cooker off at the wall whenever its not in use. I guess the wall switch was probably initially implemented to isolate the power...

Electric oven element on when switched off…. Belling 644 electric cooker

Yeah, I kinda knew it was either switch, thermostat or both but I was surprised a fault which could turn on an unattended oven would even be possible, I would have thought they’d be some kind of fail safe

Electric oven element on when switched off…. Belling 644 electric cooker

Yeah, that was kind of my thinking but as the fault enables the oven elements to operate when the oven knob is off, it threw me, as I never have expected a fault like that could ever occur, believing they’d be a fail safe of some kind. My main oven is always empty other than the racks but the...

Electric oven element on when switched off…. Belling 644 electric cooker

That’s the only switch/knob for the main oven, when the knob is rotated clockwise it turns on the circulating fan and the oven

Electric oven element on when switched off…. Belling 644 electric cooker

Judging by the orange glow of the element, which I’ve never noticed when the oven has been in use in the past, I assume the thermostat isn’t functioning either; so it’s either a fault with the thermostat, the rotary switch or both.

Electric oven element on when switched off…. Belling 644 electric cooker

No, it’s a fan assisted oven, so when the element is on without the knob being rotated to the on position, the elements glows without the fan operating. When I rotate the knob clockwise to the on position, the fan comes on and will turn off when I rotate the knob to the off position. Also...

Genuinely want a photo ? What, of the element glowing orange ?

Electric oven element on when switched off…. Belling 644 electric cooker

I’ve not kept it on long enough to see whether temperature regulates. No doubt some will say, I should always switch the cooker off at the wall, especially when away but it’s something I’ve never done. Although it looks to be a faulty switch, I would have thought there would be a fail safe of...

Electric oven element on when switched off…. Belling 644 electric cooker

With the switch in the off position, the oven on light was on. I assumed a faulty switch and I switched cooker off at the wall but with the kitchen switched light off, I could see the cookers oven element glowing orange, although it looked to be cooling down. With the cooker switched back on...

Options available to increase compression seal on upvc french doors with no compression adjustment on hinges

robinbanks....Thanks for your very thorough reply. Yeah, when the unit arrived, it wasn't glazed and they fitted the unit and screwed it in place before fitting the trim, I can't remember them using the exp form or if they removed the doors to fit. Most often, the doors are taped up and...

Options available to increase compression seal on upvc french doors with no compression adjustment on hinges

When the unit and doors were brought into my flat, the doors were already fitted to the frame, and I was told they're pre assembled off site to ensure the frame and doors seal effectively, as they're constructed at the same time. I don't recall if the fitters removed the doors to fit the frame...

Options available to increase compression seal on upvc french doors with no compression adjustment on hinges

ronnie & robin, thanks Yeah, both stike plates have been adjusted numerous times by many a HA maintenance operative and myself and it appears to make little to no difference or causes additional issues. When the top strike plate is moved ever so slightly out toward the outside to increase...

Options available to increase compression seal on upvc french doors with no compression adjustment on hinges

When the last and current set of french doors were fitted in 2020, the whole estate had new window and door fitted by a team of contractors. The two previous sets of French Doors, where fitted by Housing Association Operatives, which are kind of a jack of all trades type maintenance men, that...
