Work involved in skimming 6mx4m ceiling?

You should see the size of some of the rooms in the old Edinburgh victorian/georgian tenement flats .... a friend has a living room room that is approx 8m x 6m with a 3.5m high ceiling, and very fancy cornicing! Usually the only thing holding the old horsehair plaster in place is the 5...

Light circuit for 5 amp sockets

Ok, I've ordered some firetuf cable. I'll likely out it in the flexible conduit anyway, since there is space for the conduit, and it will offer better mechanical protection. Thanks. Ian

fixing a mirror to a wall with no screws

If anyone is thinking of gluing a mirror to a wall, then I think you need to be careful as to what type of glue to use ..... one of the diy programs on TV recently (Chris Young?) mentioned a special type of mirror glue that wont damage the silvered back of the mirror. Ian

To re-board, or not to re-board... that is my question!

So you have removed the plasterboard of just one wall? And are undecided whether to remove it of off a second wall as well... ? This sounds very similar to what I have just done. I ripped of dot'n'dab'd plasterboard of a wall in order to run cat5, ct100, HDMI, projector trigger cable...

Light circuit for 5 amp sockets

I am now thinking of running the cable behind the skirting board in flexible metal conduit. For example, this sort of stuff: http://www.adaptaflex.com/products.asp?ID=81 I'll run an earth wire from several of the metal patresses to the conduit. The advantage is that it also gives some...

    Drywall screw length?

Ok, thanks for the advice. There will be three of us putting them up - two holding the plasterboard in place and one operating the collated driver. A 3m length is exactly the right height for the room, so it seems to make sense to do it this way. Ian

    Drywall screw length?

What length of drywall screws should I use to attach 3m x 1.2m x 12.5mm plasterboad sheets to 45mm studs? 32, 35, or 38mm? How far apart should the screws be? 150mm ... ? I have studs at 600 centres, but no battens. Is this ok? The ceiling height is approx 2.92m, so that...

Work involved in skimming 6mx4m ceiling?

Hi, I have removed a stud wall between the living room and a bedroom to give a larger lounge. I plan to patch up the gap between the two ceilings myself with smaller bits of plasterboard. The two ceilings are at the same level (screwed onto 44mm battens which are in the...

Light circuit for 5 amp sockets

Trunking is not an option .... its either behind the plasterboard or not at all. I'm glad I asked here before starting any work! Thanks for the advice. Ian

Light circuit for 5 amp sockets

What options do I have then? Run the cable from the switch, down the wall, then behind the plasterboard just above the skirting board (at socket level)? With some of that metal protective strip stuff over it? This would mean chasing out the plasterboard around a lot of the room. Ian

Light circuit for 5 amp sockets

Hi, How do I add a set of 5 amp light sockets to a room? It is to feed approx six 5 amp sockets for table lamps etc. I assume I need 1.5mm cable? How should it be wired to a switch so that all the table lights can be turned off or on at the same time? Where can I get the power...
