Permitted development & lawful development certificates.

I'm stubborn lol. My architect has spoken to BC overseeing my other works and 2 of the planners and they all insist it has to be a full planning. I could pay £86 or whatever and make an enquiry but I have been told unofficially it will need full application so I'm not going to waste my...

    Humming noise. Flue?

If you switch the boiler completely off then it can't be the condensate or any other pump. A humming noise could be wind acting on the flue like blowing in the top of a beer bottle.

    Humming noise. Flue?

Perhaps it is just happy about being a heating system  One serious note, I'm not a gas safe fitter but I know enough to judge, that can't really be the condensate pipe can it ? ? ?

    boiler replacement - new pipes

There are benifits to reusing some sections of old pipe of it is sound. For example I am currently replacing all my copper heating pipe work and fitting all new rads but there is a section into my bathroom downstairs where I have been able to reuse 2 longer lengths of 15mm meaning there are...

Heating drain cock - ideas where to fit

Thanks guys. Trick is where I can have a section of floor I can get under. What is currently the cupboard is getting removed to make way for access to the bathroom. It's a bungalow. Think I can find somewhere. Presumably there is no problem having tap in one position with a longish tail...

Heating drain cock - ideas where to fit

Hi, Currently re- piping my house, boiler feed is a pair of 22mm that go direct under ground floor. I am replacing the 8mm with 15 to all new rads and extending the 22mm runs. Question is though where to put the system drain, the runs are under the ground floor, fixing under the floor...

Is it possible to reroof a house from a scaf tower?

I was just quoted £630 Exvat to scaffold wrapped around a semi bungalow for a hip to gable conversion. No brainier in my opinion, way easier, quicker and most importantly safer not just for me but also the people helping me.

    Test pit to examine foundations

Hi, I'm about to start on a hip to gable on a semi bungalow. Architect is drawing plans, and SE is doing calcs for steel for loft conversion changes. There is a pretty good chance BC will want to asses the foundations, should be fine as couple of other houses on my street have done the...

Boiler move and pipe size rad replace and remove microbore

Cheers Agile. Kind of my thinking, smaller width rads look odd under windows and I'm sure don't perform quite as well. I'm about to start running in new pipe work and will also need to order rads soon too but it's a decision to not only get output etc correct but they also have to look right...

Boiler move and pipe size rad replace and remove microbore

Just wondering as well, size of rads. Is it better to have a single panel rad the width of the window it is positioned under for example or a physically smaller double panel rad that doesn't cover all of the window width ?

Loft conversion - Steel RSJ's for support

Though having had a look at the thread you linked I suspect OP and me are a little bit nervous about physically getting the steel in place ! Nice job tho.

Loft conversion - Steel RSJ's for support

I'm having a hip to gable design done at the moment. Structural engineers will be giving me designs for 2 steels which will run from the party wall to the external wall and they will be in 3 sections. The design will show all the pad requirements plus installation requirements for spanning...

House renovation where to start? Help needed!!

I'm pretty much doing the same thing. I took out the wall between my kitchen and dining room, next will be replacing the dining room window with french doors. Agree with a lot of what is already posted, I with I had stripped out all the carpets straight away rather than working around them...

    best route for circs

My drawings were definiitly better :D I don't know if shorter is always better, ease of install is just as important as is access for any future additions or maintenance.
