This sounds like a good use for 20mm couplers and bushes?!

    Capping or No Capping?

I've done a few recently, due to adding sockets to a ring. 20mm oval conduit. Strip the ends of each cable, cut the L and N off, and twist the CPCs tightly together. Cover in tape from outer sheath to outer sheath. Washing up liquid on the cable, and drip a bit on the hole for a cable going...

    Capping or No Capping?

I always use plastic conduit (Not capping). It is possible to replace a cable in the future, if you are very careful and have access to the other end of the conduit. Fix it as required with plumbers banding.

    Straightening out fascia

I need to renew the fascia capping on my house but the old fascia is quite wavy along the side of the house, and I'd like to improve it whilst I have the chance. I cannot get inside it to pack out on the rafter ends without starting to strip the roof which I don't want to do. Under the capping...

Zinsser PermaWhite satin or matt for ceiling

I shall give it plenty of stirring! I read reviews saying the coverage isn't great, but my ceiling already has white trade matt, so hopefully 2 coats of PermaWhite and it will be bulletproof, as they say. Maybe the reviews I saw were from people who didn't stir it properly.

Zinsser PermaWhite satin or matt for ceiling

I was inclined to agree. Returned it and got a tin of matt. Everything I read says it's going to be the best paint I ever bought, so I hope its right!

Mattress Foam (NOT memory) in stud wall as sound insulation - sensible?

A bit more cost, but a single room MHrV could be used, just needing a second hole to outside. Then a tight fitting door would work

    footings

I suspect you did. They won't care how you want to spread it, charges are always volumetric, probably with a minimum charge (3 cubic metres seems common)

    Wood chip wallpaper/blue grit

We had a room much like that, Gritted it and skimmed, 12 years on there's been no issues. Just need to make sure it is all very well stuck, and remove any areas that arent. Ours seemed to have been applied direct to new plasterboard, so was basically part of the board

Zinsser PermaWhite satin or matt for ceiling

I picked up 2.5l of Permawhite satin finish today, for a bathroom ceiling. I hadn't realised there was a matt version, espeically as it's regarded as such a tough paint. Will satin look good on the ceiling, or too shiney? I see Zinsser recommend it for use on woodwork, which is certainly more...

Mitre saw brake not usually working

Thanks. So what fuse should I replace?! I cannot see anything internal on the diagrams. I did clean the switch with contact cleaner, but will get the meter on it again to confirm, and will clean the controller fully. May spend a few £ on replacement brushes, as they were eBay cheapy ones, if...

Mitre saw brake not usually working

Thank you for this, very thorough. No repair video for this sadly. I had mis understood that the 3rd contact on the switch was for shorting the motor briefly to stop it, but instead there is a costly controller! I'll tear it down again and give that a look over and clean. Are you suggesting...

Mitre saw brake not usually working

Hi all, Recently my mitre saw (Hitachi C8FSE) brake has stopped working, usually, or kicks in really late. I have: - Replaced the brushes (unbranded) - Sanded and sprayed with contact cleaner the armature, and cleaned out the gaps - Cleaned out the whole tool - Using a multimetre, checked the...

Mattress Foam (NOT memory) in stud wall as sound insulation - sensible?

Metal stud is even better - the sound insulation is almost continuous, and it goes up faster

1950s Bungalow Ventilation Options - Suspended Timber Floor - MVHR / PIV etc?

This is basically what we did I fitted noggins between the floor joists as they didnt seem to bother in the 50s! 100mm PIR insulation, all foamed in and foil taped joins. Then 18mm ply, with the gaps sealed up. We fitted HMRV, it was a doddle in a bungalow, but not during this warm weather...

Removing en suite, saniflo, basin, radiator, electric shower

Where you remove tile you will need a plasterer, so for not a lot more money they can re-skim the ceiling, and blend it into the bedroom. With that in mind, maybe just drop the entire ceiling of the bathroom whilst it still has a door, and then you can remove everything properly. Might even be...

What to do with a long garage that doesn't fit my car?

I'm 39, and started building my 80 square metre extension in January 2022. It's now built and knocked through to the house, and I am converting the old living room into 2 bathrooms and a walk in wardrobe. I had a digger driver for 5 days for groundwork, and worked with a blockie for 3 weeks (I...

Sound Reduction for a Solid brick bathroom party wall

50mm metal stud at 400mm centres, with 50mm Rockwool RWA45 between would be good (They design them for 600mm centres, so cut cut them into 3x 400 sections from a 1200mm long panel). Use blue soundshield plasterboard, 2x 12.5mm layers if you can, or a single 15mm layer. Keep the studs 10mm off...

I used BlackJack, 2 coats. It stank, but seems to have worked, 2 years on.
