Roofing job where do I stand?

Did you have a written contract or was it cash in hand? A contract makes your life a lot easier (not easy, but easier)

lol I am. though whether its 5K or 25K I have no real feel. I won't tell the roofers that!

Retro-fitting dry verge on slate roof

Decided after all to get quotes for re-roof the whole lot. Kills several birds with one stone: quite a few dodgy-looking ridges; no roof felt at the moment; no capping on cavities so wind coming out of every plug socket and floorboard; easier access to tight loft areas so I can add a load of...

    Boiler plume problems

sorry to hijack, but my query is quite similar: I need my boiler outlet pipe to be extended up then out, as the plume is making my own fascias green. What do I search for for a solution? Is the first one on this page the jobby I'm after? It says it should be installed by a gas installer - isnt...

Shower from combi not really hot enough

its all fed in 15mm...why would the basin be delivering less? Anyway, winter/summer doesn't seem to apply, given it was the same in the newer shower back in the summer..... Appreciate the help.

Shower from combi not really hot enough

Thanks. I get what you're saying but I fitted the 2nd shower in the early summer (only just got round to using/fixing it!) so not sure the issue is one at the boiler. Plus, the basins are very hot..

Shower from combi not really hot enough

We have two of these showers fitted in the house: SIREN SL EXPOSED MIXER SHOWER One has been there for 3 years and the other one just installed (by me) The original one has been great, except that I find it necessary to turn the heat control knob more and more to the hot end to get a good hot...

Recommendations for generator for emergency use

a small fan heater wont draw more than 1KW will it? An old electric fire used to be 1KW per bar, or at least that's how my Dad told me it was...! Thanks for the info.

Recommendations for generator for emergency use

We dont get many power cuts in these parts, but I have realised that if and when we do, I have no way of generating heat (other than boiling water on a camping stove for a hot water bottle) So, I was thinking of getting a generator so we could at least run a fan heater (plus charge the phones...

    Replacing a gas meter cupboard

I could do that, but the catch is broken as well, and the whole thing, even though I painted it 2 years ago, looks a mess, hence wanting a new one. At £60 or so I'm just being cautious that the new one will fit!

Retro-fitting dry verge on slate roof

My slate roof is bedded onto mortar as shown. Its failed in many places, though this bit is not bad (yet) I was thinking of some sort of retro-fitted dry verge as an alternative, as it could be a DIY job from a ladder (?) rather than scaffold (tower) for removing and replacing mortar. With no...

    Replacing a gas meter cupboard

Thanks. Without a model number on the existing, can you shed light on the likely make?

    Replacing a gas meter cupboard

My external, surface-mounted box is knackered. Judging by the sizes alone it seems to be a Mitras MK1. Does that look to be true (can't find a model on the existing)? I'd like to buy a replacement cover but I can't see how the existing cover would detach, even though it's clearly separate...

I've messed up - electric shock after plastering wall

Now you're an electrician, your plastering needs work, though! Good on yer for DIYing though. Learning to plaster is fun

It does, thank you very much. And sorry for the late reply - been busy with looking for the source of water ingress.
