    Outside light spurred off socket

Went to a job today to add a spur socket. Before doing the testing I noticed the outside light had been directly spurred off a socket in the kitchen. On the minor works cert for doing the IR test would it be ok to put 'LIM' in the box for testing P-N & explain in the agreed limitations box that...

where can you buy an isolator switch ?

Could someone advise me where you can buy the 100a isolator switches from that go between the electric meter & the CU (to isolate the CU without having to pull the main fuse). The ones I've seen on the TLC website are the ones that go in the CU.

    RCD tripping problem again

OK thanks, never tested an RCD directly onto it before. Do I disconnect the live busbar & test between the live load side on the RCD & earth? In my Meggers instructions, for testing on the auto sequence setting you have to put the red test lead on the live load terminal of the RCD & the green...

    RCD tripping problem again

A couple of weeks ago I posted on here about a nusiance 30mA RCD tripping problem (upstairs & downstairs sockets). I thought I found the problem, a double adaptor was faulty so I binned it. RCD tripping problem stopped. Now its started up again, so today I went through all the tests on the CU...

    minor works cert

Just carrying out my minor job today for NIC assessment. I've added an extra socket (spur). I've got 2 questions. 1. Where is says RCD on the cert. I've filled in the BS(EN) no. & the In bit. What do I put in the "type". There was nothing written on the RCD saying what type so I put in 63A...

    Another RCD nusiance tripping question

Just to update you. The tv & cable box were plugged into a double adaptor. I've removed the adaptor & tripping has stopped. Needless to say I have binned it. :)

    Another RCD nusiance tripping question

I'll see if I can borrow a PAT tester from somewhere. The RCD protects 2 cb's. The house ring circuit & the garage but there is nothing plugged in or switched on in the garage. Fell asleep watching tv the other night & woke up about 2am & all the power had gone off. The only thing that was...

    Another RCD nusiance tripping question

    Another RCD nusiance tripping question

Changed my CU about 2 months ago & did a complete test. (This is one of my assessment jobs). Unfortunately the whole house ring circuit is on 1 cb on the RCD side. Over the last week the RCD has been tripping now & again. It does it mainly when the tv & cable box are switched on (washing...

    16mm meter tails & DNO

When I phoned Central Networks they said that this wasnt their responsibility. The women read out a list of things that they were responsible for, things like underground cables, substations etc. When I phoned British Gas the women I spoke to just wanted my ££££ & that was that. Cheers for...

    16mm meter tails & DNO

Yeah, good point. I was going by the label on the side of the fuse. It looks like a proper label that should be there. I've worked my max demand out to be 56A so the 16mm tails would be ok anyway. Its just the fuse thats debatable.

    16mm meter tails & DNO

Got the NIC bloke coming out for an assessment soon after changing my CU & noticed in my meter box I've got a 100A main fuse & 16mm tails. Phoned Central Networks who said I need to speak to the metering dept at my electric supplier (BG). Managed to get to speak to someone who was only...

    NICEIC Domestic Installers

scousespark - I'm not for one minute thinking of going for AC or thinking a 5 day course would have prepared me for commercial/industrial work. I was just stating a fact. All I'm concerned about at the moment is passing my assessment & getting my DI approval.

Adding a spur, but no supp bonding

Adding a spur to a socket at my mums, but she has no Supp bonding. Am I am correct in saying that I dont need to carry this out, as the job I'm doing is not related to the bathroom ?
