    Cistern continuously filling

Downstairs loo won't stop filling, although it's slow. Can the valve be cleaned or will it just fall apart? And if the latter, is this what I need to replace, please? https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-bottom-entry-fill-valve/5527f

Drain smell inside house - tracing source

Re rant, sorry to hear that. We've had a property that Jack built too - I think the worse vendor is a DIYer with a little knowledge. Nor do I think a full survey would pick up a lot of the snags you mention. In my experience they're in and out before the tea's cool enough to drink! Chin up. :)

    Kitchen upstand adhesive

What would be a good product to use for mdf kitchen upstands? They'd be going on to a plastered wall and, I guess, would need siliconing at their base where they meet the worktop. But then I'd have to put pressure on them until they set. I wondered if there's a waterproof contact adhesive that...

    Thanks all. :-)

    LED rope lighting

I wanted to add some undercabinet LED lighting in the kitchen and note some are 240 volt, some 12, some 24 volt, but with the latter I need to hide a transformer. Are there any advantages in using the transformer type? I also need one short length, maybe 58cm, but most of the 'rope' I've seen...

What’s going on with the standard of plumbers?

My two penneth. Using a 'cheap' tradesman doesn't guarantee a lousy job, any more than using an expensive one guarantees a good job. And yes, some customers are just not worth working for. :-)

    Turning off hot water unvented

Ah thank you. Will I get an airlock or anything when turned on again?

    Turning off hot water unvented

How do I turn off the hot water at kitchen sink, as I want to change the isolator on the feed. If I turn off the stopcock, the cold shuts off immediately and the hot slows down, but doesn't appear to stop - unless I'm being impatient. I have a system boiler and Megaflow cylinder. Thank you!

    Ideal HE12 boiler "thumping"

Yay! (Sort of!) I only found mine was there as I'm gutting the kitchen units for a refit. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

    Ideal HE12 boiler "thumping"

Hmmm. Mine's under sink plinth though. Might be worth whippping that off for a look.

    Ideal HE12 boiler "thumping"

Mine's chased in wall, only to resurface under sink's plumbing, so may be worth a look there.

    Ideal HE12 boiler "thumping"

I've no idea either but have the same boiler and it most certainly isn't normal. The first fire-up of the day is noisier than subsequent fire-ups though.

Noisy kitchen extractor Cowl Vent in strong winds

I have a flappy wall mounted extractor cowl similar to the one attached, and in most cases this is absolutely fine. However, when the wind's up it gets under the cowl and bangs the flap about, which is really irritating! I was thinking of making another, larger cowl with strategic vents to act...

    Ugly kitchen switch panel

My wife hates this as it's quite angular. All other kitechen switches are modern and sleek. There's a teeny MEM logo on the back of the coverplate, who I think were sold to Eaton, who no longer (I think) make the part. So I can't check if they offer a super-sleek modern equivalent. However, if I...

    Dualflush button question

Which is the half flush portion of the dual flush, please? The round white disc in centre or the black cantilever? I'm fitting a new button and want to line the correct button. Many thanks!
