Bear in mind most manufacturers have their gauge read "in the middle" to keep the driver happy. It does not show actual temperature, a VW will show 90 on the gauge from just above 60 to just above 100 degrees before it shows much different. My system at 80 degree C ain't far off! it's a two stage unit that uses two types of refrigerant with R134 in the second stage. The first stage pre-heats it's refrigerant and if further heat is required, it is heated further using the second stage.
