Advice needed - Boiler pressure fault (Long Post)

Yes, but, if the expansion vessel loses its air charge (maintenance task, pump it up again) or the diaphragm perforates (new expansion vessel needed), then there is nothing to accomodate the water expansion, the pressure will rise and the PRV valve will open to discharge the excess volume. The...

    hot water supply system

Your diagram is too small to read but too big to study for free. I'd guess floors 1 and 2 get hot water, 18 and 19 don't. You probably need balancing/regulating valves on the return branches, to reduce flow to the outlets nearest the circulating pumps and so increase the flow to outlets...

    Power flushing kit

Yes John, I know. There's no requirement to know much about fundamental fluid dynamics or hydrostatics, either, judging by some of the responses in the link above. So why are such threads in the Combustion Chamber? Are the RGIs suffering from a collective delusion about competence...

    Power flushing kit

Sometimes. Read some of the posts here about the Aerjec device. http://www.diynot.com/forums/plumbing/what-is-wrong-with-my-heating-system-air.358155/ If you don't see a problem, it's because you are part of the problem. Unknown unknowns and all that.

    Power flushing kit

It does make sense that an RGI should know about powerflushing and chemical cleaning. Is there a specific module on the RGI training syllabus that covers chemical water treatment and system flushing? Or is it something that an RGI should know about, but often doesn't.

Why is it in the Combustion Chamber?

I didn't think he was. What has Gas Safe got to do with power flushing?

    Power flushing kit

What has power flushing got to do with Gas Safe? One of the main reasons why power flushing is needed is that many of the clueless incompetents that install and service domestic heating systems in the UK have no training in simple fluid dynamics or water treatment. But they're Gas Safe...

    underfloor heating problems

Different metals are almost unavoidable in a heating system, typically steel and copper. That can cause electrolytic action, but it shouldn't. The one other thing that is needed, to make the system into a big galvanic corrosion cell is a suitable electrolyte, preferably acidic. Where do the...

can i fit non return valve to hot water vent pipe

No valves. It's due to lack of head &/or the pipes being undersized between the tank outlet and the open vent connection. When there is a draw-off, the frictional pressure losses are too high and the pressure is below atmospheric at the open vent tee; air gets sucked in. Check all the...

    plumbed BBQ

Outside? A Gas Safe bloke will be along to shout at you shortly. You'd probably need to change the jets, they're intended for use on propane.

Anywhere to buy threaded pipe and these flanges in uk?

Shelving units? Try Kee Klamp fittings instead. Similar to the screwed flanges, but only secured with a hexagon allen bolt. Used for shop fittings and warehouse racking. The stockists sell the galvanized pipe and cut it to size. BSS and their many associated companies will charge like a...

    ceiling heating (in Italy)

Then why post it in a 'Plumbing and Central Heating' forum?

    ceiling heating (in Italy)

Find a local controls contractor. The off-the-shelf controllers are intended to deal with a limited number of standard domestic arrangements. Anything unusual needs a programmable (flexible) controller; programming is NOT simple, it is NOT cheap. The manuals (there are several) are 60mm+...

    ceiling heating (in Italy)

http://www.frenger.co.uk/Documents/Literature/LT_Atrium.pdf Old technology, mainly used in prisons, hospital or labs where there's no wall space or wall-mounted radiators can't be used. Black bulb sensor, lots of manufacturers make them, Sontay for example. UFH is more comfortable...

Hooking up a cold rad to 80C water

Page 3 on the installation manual. The schematic is simple, it was a simple layout. http://www.1520management.co.uk/pdf/Powermax%20155x.pdf The store contained 80 (140) or 100 litres (155) of water and was heated directly by a burner mounted on the top, firing downwards through fire tubes...

Hooking up a cold rad to 80C water

Range Powermax. They don't make them anymore, though. I can't think why. :?:

Hooking up a cold rad to 80C water

But a slug of cold return water and a 50 deg temperature difference across the boiler would do it no good at all. Ask your boss.

Hooking up a cold rad to 80C water

All of them. It won't happen due to the thermal inertia of the radiator, pipes and the water. You could get closer with your thermal store, but there are few advantages and many disadvantages.
