    fluke 1653 lead problem

I had the same trouble and bought some croc clips with 4mm sockets on the end. You can plug them onto the lantern ends making an unfused lead for dead tests, and I have had no trouble with them http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=46249&criteria=shrouded%20croc%20clip%204mm&doy=22m3...

Test Schedules - What do you do ?

As far as im aware it only requires a tick. Otherwise that row will show an MCB with a wire size that is too small for the circuit. Thats my opinion anyway regards

    Using A Crimping Tool....

I have found that you get better results (wont pull out) if you first look down the end of the crimp, and make sure the seam of the metal cylinder is directly above the cable when you feed it in. If you crimp with the seam on one side it doesnt form as well and the wire pulls out. Regards

    Silly pat test requests... lol

I did suggest belling the lead out before fitting it, but they were hoping I would stick passed labels on them. It made me think they were tring to be clever by getting me to put my name to appliances that were in poor condition. Regards

    Silly pat test requests... lol

Today I was asked to PAT a load of leads. They had 110V industrial plugs on one end, and bare wires at the other end. They wanted to know the leads were safe before wiring them to appliances, so I suggested fitting them then testing the appliance after

6A MCB trips when Lightbulb blows??

The type B breaker can be replaced with type C if the Zs for that circuit is low enough. That should stop it nuisance tripping. Regards

    Test Board

It all sounds like a lot of work to me :) The important part is to test for dead and practise the test sequence after nulling leads etc. Having realistic values doesnt really matter, as long as you put the exact readings down on the form, even if it means 0.00 ohms. Regards

I was of the understanding that white sheath was low smoke cable. Personally I would prefer cable to smoke so that it sets the smoke alarms off :)

Nice idea, but I cant see how the warning label is supposed to fix to the clamp. Surely it doesnt just slide over the cable and is left to chafe :?
