    3 port divertor hot case

Many thanks for that I have a basic understanding of a standard Y plan but this addition of a combi takes some thinking about. The combi is giving us hot water on demand and its heating the water in the cylinder, the last time I felt the top of the motorised valve head we were not calling for...

    3 port divertor hot case

Thanks for replys, the number on the head is HSA3 and it has 4 wires. I'm not at home at the moment but I have the old head with me, this head was obviously replaced a few years ago before we moved here and I found it yesterday at the back of the airing cupboard. The one thats on now looks...

    Dripping Sound Above Bathroom Ceiling

Is it a dripping sound or a ticking sound? It could be the plastic waste pipe is expanding slightly and rubbing against floor joists when the hot bath water is drained. I mean how much noise does water make when it drips on a ceiling from a few inches up? Of course if there is a wet...

    3 port divertor hot case

Over the last few days our heating system has developed a fault, when we select hot water the heating comes on. The Danfoss (Type:HSA3) 3 port divertor valve in the airing cupboard feels quite hot to the touch on the top even though all 3 pipes are cold, I'm guessing its faulty but is there...

Dragons Den - Pump Removal Tool Invention

The Dragons had NO IDEA what on earth they were for, or what he was on about. The rad draining kit has been on sale for a while. He needs to invent another pipe slice to hit the big time.

same old question ? plastic or copper ?

I'm not even a plumber just a Diy'er. Its just I have a sister and friend who both live in new houses and both have had plastic fittings fail. :( Multiple houses on my sisters estate have had serious water damage.

same old question ? plastic or copper ?

Yes don't forget an access panel over every plastic Mickey Mouse fitting so when they start to drip or blow off you can push them back together. Real plumbers plumb in lead. Or copper.

Memories of an old time plumber

Maybe you can start us off Malcolm, I bet you've seen some nasty injurys in your time on sites (lack of health & safety), care to share them? I was told a few when I was an apprentice in mechanical engineering. Guys would get a finger cut off, stir their tea with it and put in in their...

    Learning more about Plumbing!

No point in buying cheap entry level rubbish, just get yourself a Rothenberger quick fire 2 and a Rothenberger pipe slice. Then buy a length of copper pipe and some endfeed fittings. something like Fry Powerflow flux and leadfree solder. Then practice away As generous as the guys on here...

    Noisy tap problem

Is it a monoblock mixertap? They can be noisy with high water pressure because the waterways are very narrow and high pressure water 'screams' when it goes through them. If you know the make you can order a new cartridge, they are usually £10 - £40. That could be the fault.

    Bath Sealant shocker . . . . . .

Forget masking tape I can't stress that enough, GET RID OF IT!!! :D I always use sugar soap beforehand to degrease the area, I also find soapy water causes more problems than it solves, I use saliva. Run a spit laced finger over the silicone, a tub of Everbuild Wonder Wipes as well for...

    cistern to toilet connection

Some flexis are like a coiled spring in that they come fully extended and when you push the ends together they want to return to the original shape (Wirquin Jollyflex). I think the supposedly better McAlpine one takes any position you want and can sag and slip off the spigot like I think...

cold water tank not filling up - dripping all night - leak?

How many outlets has the tank got? It must be quite a leak if it emptys overnight, min 25 gallons? If it has more than one outlet (supplying cold taps aswell?) then if you turn off all the taps in the house and reach into the tank, when you cover the outlet with your finger you will feel...

    Fitting a Radiator

What worries me now is the skill is going out of plumbing with these Mickey Mouse plastic speedfits and the like. I'm no expert but I think all the major house builders use it, its just not as durable as copper, unexplained bursts, rats chewing it, restrictive inserts! Good design but...

    Fitting a Radiator

I won't have a bad word said about tomplum, don't forget he's working infront of a camera to be seen by thousands of people. And he has the balls to video himself in the first place. His vidoes are just to help new starters and diy'ers, he knows time served plumbers of 50+ will find them...

    Diy Not vs Screwfix

Until Screwfix can sort out its offline issues then they will continue to loose more and more contributers to Diynot. Its a good place for banter Screwfix, but seems to be unavailable a lot of the time. Banter on this site seems unacceptable for some reason?

    Combustion Chamber aka The Lodge!!

Are career change chancers the guys who leave jobs in the city who are say in their 40's and retrain as a plumber to earn more money? Surley at that age you will never know as much as a lad who did it as a teenager or in twentys? I'm sure some of them turn out to be fairly decent plumbers...
