Water hammer after kitchen mixer tap change

Did you fit any isolation valves on the kitchen tap? Trouble is they are not designed to reduce flow and increases the water 'hiss'. I read somewhere that fitting a non return valve on the pipe underneath the tap would halt the 'shockwave' and stop the water hammer. Does anyone know if...

    No water in pump!

Have you bled all the vent points in the airing cupboard? It will be trapped air somewhere. It takes a brave man to backfill his system untill it pours out of the F&E overflow!!

newly fitted flat panel radiator cold

I read somewhere on a forum (maybe this one?) that these designer rads are very fussy about having the flow and return reversed, I'm sure this guy swapped them round and it worked. First try cracking open the union on the return and drawing some water off and see if that works. Ideal job...

Plastic pipe for central heating is this right (no copper)

Yes, lets not all jump on the op, there's alot of this on forums and many posters are ridiculed and almost slagged off by forum members who lets face it only have very basic facts and don't know the poster. Although a few cases the poster (not necessarily chuggypig) needs only type a few...

    shower pump problem

http://www.newteamshowers.com/ntpages/sfnPumps1.pdf/$FILE/ShowerForcePumps1.pdf Your shower pump instructions state that the pump must not be installed in a loft (know yours isn't) so for that reason it says nothing about air vents although it does sound like trapped air so maybe they wont go...

Plastic pipe for central heating is this right (no copper)

Hi chuggypig, sorry to hear of your problems. You say you've had 8 quotes for this job, what kind of price fluctuations did that bring on and how did the chosen installer fit into that? basically was he the cheapest? This lie he told you about the boiler falling off the back of a lorry...

Advice needed for fitting a pump

Heat and short sharp shocks with a hammer are the answer here. If the cylinder is foam lagged then be careful with the flame, you may want the connect something to it and heat that instead thermal conduction will heat the joint. When its hot put your spanner back on and put pressure on it...

loft tank flooded most of house

Hi elcaro sorrk to hear about the disaster, typical it should happen when you're away! I'm interested about the condition of the overflow, as a diy'er I'm no expert but can a plumber confirm that an overflow (if fitted) should actually carry away all the water and not just alert you to the...

    BES Plumbing supplies

I've ordered a few bits from here recently and saved a fortune over merchants prices. An example is this fitting at £1.06 + VAT, I bought this recently from my local merchants for £7.45 inc VAT, I feel robbed now. Surely you plumbers can't buy basic stock cheaper at the merchants...

    Where's all this water going?

Are you talking about the PHEX Agile? I may turn the boiler iso's down to confirm, the landlord is likely to let this drag on for ages, he was told weeks ago and the problem has gotten worse.
