    Apprenticeship

Don't worry Bathstyle, I've heard plumbers on forums boast they can do a bathroom in 4 -6 hours. I wouldn't let them within 10 miles of my house though. Have you posted on Screwfix job talk? Wouldn't talking on an apprentice slow you down initially anyway?

    Mcalpine washing machine vented trap

I'm installing our new dishwasher and wondered whether or not to use the normal standpipe or use a sink trap that accepts a hose connection. I found this Mcalpine vent tee and got me thinking about syphonic action etc. Will the discharging dishwasher/washing machine affect the trap seal...

    Salamander pump

If you have a digital camera a nice clear picture of the hot water cylinder would be great. Is there a 22mm pipe coming out of the top 3rd of the cylinder? If may have the foam lagging roughly cut away around it. If not is there a brass fitting at the top of the cylinder with a vertical and...

Is there anything I can use to stop a leaking joint?

I've seen some sort of repair bandage that boasts it will hold under mains pressure but I wouldn't use it. Fernox LSX is good but you would have to take the joints apart, easy job for plumber, not too expensive either.

    Salamander pump

I used the term 'poor installers' in my last post, he may be a good guy for all I know and its probably not fair make such a statement without knowing all the facts. Did he use an essex flange though? one of these...

    Leaky chrome pipework

I'm only a simple diy'er but I used some chrome pipe a while ago and the soft copper olives didn't seem to be as good a connection as the brass ones. I tested my theroy on some cut off's and I tightend a copper olive up hard on one side and a brass on the other, undid the fittings and I could...

    Salamander pump

I wonder how much money Salamander looses each year due to replacing pumps in perfect working order, no wonder they're so strict regarding the guarantee. It sounds like these poor installers are costing them a fortune, if you ring Salamander tech (Pimpwise) they will take you're pumps serial...

Soil pipe & pan connector sizes

Hi Goldberg The soil stack and branch measure about 3 1/2 inch, the merchant gave me the wrong connector, this one looks soooooo narrow inside (bottleneck). Is there such thing as 3 ich soil?

Soil pipe & pan connector sizes

While replacing my toilet I noticed the soil pipe wasn't the standard 110mm but is the smaller size 82mm? I went to the merchant and told him I wanted a pan connector for this situation, when I got home and offered it up it was smaller even that the 82mm. It said 3 inch on the packet!, is it...

Shower issue - do I really need to replace my hot cylinder?

I don't know doitall, I've never known Bathstyle to be wrong, or yourself for that matter!! So who's right? My understanding is that a negative head pump is only needed if there's only about 6 inches from the showerhead to bottom of CWS tank? The op said the Trevi boost wasn't hot...

    Anyone seen this?

Cowboy Trap BBC 1, I watch it on I player. Some classic cowboy work like resting floor joists on polystyrene and boiler flues discharging inside. Although I have to say when their team goes in to put everything right, their attension to detail could be better. :)...
