    as far as i recall they have the same wiring but do not have a removable head that is interchangeable with honeywell, which became the 'industry standard' 15 (guess) years ago.

    no you don't need to drain the dhw. what you propose sounds fine. but if i were you i would return the wicks valve & get a honeywell or preferably (imo) a horstman version (cheaper & better guarantee). wait till monday & pop down partscenter.

    just concentrate on your 'diverter problem' for now. plastic pipework does not look nice otherwise its ok. do you need hw for a bath or do you just require it to wash your hands ? this is a little unclear. a room stat is a good idea.

    it wouldn't make any difference as you are draining the boiler to release system pressure.

    the filling loop key assembly is an optional extra & has not been fitted in your case. so you will have a standard filling loop somewhere. i have never seen one not fitted but i suppose its possible.

    the top picture. someone has done that on purpose as they believed the rads were fitted in series. who ever did it thought that the other rads on the system would get no flow if the trv shut down. shut the trv down & shut the ballofix. run the heating. do all the other rads work ? bottom...

    i would imagine that this is a rad replaced on a single pipe system. pics of other rads on the system may help also.
