    it sounds like it wasn't flushed & chemically treated properly when the boiler was originally installed. this is very common when a cheap boiler is cheaply installed. i'm not necessarily putting yours in this bracket, but it sounds an ideal candidate.

    the cold feed (cf) you have drawn from your feed & expansion (f&e) tank down to your boiler. i would guess the open vent (ov) comes from the bend (on the diagram) just before the pump & terminates over the f&e tank ? DH asked for the static head distance ? as you have no trvs a bypass...

    i'm being somewhat pedantic here you might think, but copper/brass & galvanised should not be directly joined together on water pipework. a dielectric or nylon/plastic fitting should be used to reduce the steel corroding. then this brings up the question of supplementary bonding i suppose.

    the two bleed points could do with replacing with aavs. the system needs a bypass. are trvs fitted ? a lot depends on exactly where the cf & ov are on the system. is the noise constant, now & again, only when ch on ?
