Concrete Fencing: Posts Gravel Boards and Angles

Hi. I'm pretty well sold on the idea of putting up concrete posts and gravel boards for my retaining fence. There is an issue though and I'm wondering whether it can be successfully addressed. Instead of two fences meeting at 90 degrees at a post, they will be meeting at 70 degrees. Can this...

Mixing concrete with 120L Cement Mixer

Of course, even people like me who have never made concrete in a mixer know that it's not an exact science when it comes to quantities of materials. But, it does help to have some inkling of what's in the ballpark when starting out, just to get a rough picture of things. Anyway, as to this 120L...

Mixing concrete with 120L Cement Mixer

I have already some all-in-one ballast that came in a one tonne bag a while ago.. Really then what I ought to be going is shoveling in the ballast and then chucking in the half bag of cement. So, I'm minded to buy myself a shovel. Should I be buying a particular size and style of shovel? How do...

Mixing concrete with 120L Cement Mixer

Okay, what I get from the above is: * With a mixer of 120L capacity, with a 1:6 mix, the cement portion for a batch needs to be more-or-less half of a 25Kg bag of cement. * I'll be making then 6 batches as I use up my 3 bags of cement as I make my 0.25 cu m of concrete. * Can use a bucket...

Mixing concrete with 120L Cement Mixer

Hi. I have bought a 120L electric cement mixer. I am wanting to make 0.25 cubic meters of concrete (by weight 1-2-4) using all-in ballast and some bags of cement. I'll need about 3 -ish 25Kg bags of cement. Okay, but how do I manage the mixing with my new 120L cement mixer? Of course, I'll...

Council flags / slabs that won't break

As to the review where someone bought flags and they ended up using as hardcore: The product was "Grey British Standard D50 Paving Slab." Bought at B&Q. But, how could a BS flag easily break?

Council flags / slabs that won't break

Thickness is important. But, is it recommended that I buy 50mm flags that are made to a British Standard? I suppose all old council flags taken from pavements are to B.S.

Council flags / slabs that won't break

Are all council flags the same? All good to buy? No problems with any brand?

Council flags / slabs that won't break

I read a review of someone who bought council flags from a well known "shed" / DIY retailer. The reviewer says the first flag broke and the rest he made hardcore off. That is worrying. I don't want that to happen to me. So, is there any advice about where or who to buy my (NEW) council flags...

    Drainage of flagged garden

I wonder if I could get away with a drainage slot network. The flags lay on top of the ground, but a network of drainage slots are placed between the flags. Something like as shown in the picture. There may be inexpensive plastic product offerings. Or maybe one could home-make something.

    Cut-off equipment - recommendation

If the table in front of my rotating sand disc is square with the disc, and if the bar is at right angles horizontally to the disc, I'll have a square faced edge on my bar. Won't I? Certainly in theory.

    Cut-off equipment - recommendation

It seems to me than that on the very specific issue of cutting this aluminium bar I have, both a circular saw as well as a grinding disk are non starters, because the bar needs a slow-moving blade action. Looks like I'll be hand cutting this bar. Unless I am willing to buy some powered hacksaw I...

    Cut-off equipment - recommendation

I'm not looking for absolute precision as such. Polishing, not really necessary. Should be square though according to a regular set square.

    Cut-off equipment - recommendation

Are we saying that both a circular saw and a grinding disk, as cutting elements, would NOT be suitable to cut my 2" diameter aluminium round bar? That would mean I either use a hand hacksaw, or a powered hacksaw. Is that right? I do have a disk sander, and if i make a jig, I could true up...

    Drainage of flagged garden

Hi. I'm wanting to flag the entire back garden with council paving flagstones. Size about 5.5m wide 8m long. But, there are two points of note which are very pertinent to drainage which are: * I want the paving surface to be flat - no slope. * All edges will abut some kind of wall (however...

    Cut-off equipment - recommendation

In school, we had a large hacksaw, which was power operated. Not sure what it's called powered hacksaw I suppose. Do people still use them? Or, is there now a modern equivalent/substitute? P.S. Aaah. Maybe: Clarke CBS45MD 370W Metal Cutting Bandsaw or equivalent. Or the circular saw type...

    Cut-off equipment - recommendation

The cuts need to be precisely normal to the 2" diameter aluminum bar, so I cannot use a grinder.

    Cut-off equipment - recommendation

I would have thought the saw type would be most people's preference. For various reasons. True or false?

    Cut-off equipment - recommendation

Cut-off equipment (I believe - I have not done much research) can either involve a saw or a grinding wheel as the cutting element. If I was cutting steel and aluminum bars, what in general should I buy? A saw blade type or a grinding wheel type? I'd be wanting to get a pretty smooth finish at...

Making a concrete floor for a shed

I've been thinking. I reckon instead of a concrete topping, I could use regular paving 50mm flags and I'd be okay.
