    Routing network cable outside

Having spoken to my sparky again, the one big problem I might have is that the power for the office will be being taken from the garage as that is already powered properly. I may find I have to do network cable separately which would be a bind as the house is surrounded by paving of various...

    Routing network cable outside

Thanks for that as an alternative. I think I'll probably go for woody's solution but this is useful if I do need to go down that route.

Looking at those Shire Dean cabins and I really like the look of them. Which size did you go for? I'm heading towards the 10x10 ft one as that'll probably leave a 2.5mx2.5m space once insulated, boarded and skimmed. Would that estimate be about right? Also how would I go about estimating the...

    Routing network cable outside

Ah yeah the Mains system is a good one - forgot about those. That's probably the best bet.

Insulating a Shed - advice needed.

I've just started going down this route a bit - see my thread in General DIY. There's a brilliant post in there from someone else who has done it. I would avoid a shed like that and go for log cabin. The timber in the walls will be much thicker and thus more likely to keep out the weather.

    Routing network cable outside

When I've finally got my garden office sorted (see other posts) I'll want to have access to my home network. Obviously wireless is an option, but the wireless signal in the garden is poor. My electrician will be laying armoured cable to the shed, so I'm wondering if there's some sort of...

Awesome post. Many thanks indeed. I'd seen OvineLoving's post but not yours so will check yours out shortly. We have a decent place nearby (Broadoaks) in Lancaster that do all manner of cabins etc so may well look there as a first port of call. I'll certainly document what I can of the...

Please help me with floor transition

Personally I'd go for something completely different so it looks like it's planned rather than a bodge at trying to find a match :)

Some of you may have seen my plans to board out our loft to use as an office. I've had a joiner in to look at the job and he thinks that this is not a good plan due to the way the place has been built. His main concerns is that the walls we'd be using to create an independent floor are not load...

    Telephone junction box. Oops.

I'm with BT - it happened on a Saturday and they were out Tuesday afternoon. Would have been Tuesday morning if I'd been around. As I'd cut the wire back to the wood and filled by this point he located the wire in the porch and put the junction box there and then ran a new cable to the outlet...

    weed killing.

Garden fork and a bit of elbow grease. ;) Then cover with a membrane for a while. The main child and pet friendly weed killer is glyphosate but it only works on actively growing plants, and probably not on ivy. Anything stronger is likely to leave a residue so is not conducive to replanting...

    Bath panel to short

So you have a gap at the bottom now because the floor is thinner than the old floor? Or does it hang off at the top?

    Glyphosate on driveway

As far as I know glyphosate only works when it is able to be absorbed by the leaves. That's why they need to be actively growing. It becomes pretty impotent once it's down and won't stop new growth. It's designed to kill the roots of what is there. On the other hand I could be talking from...

Do you 'think outside the box'?

The problem as I see it is that anything that involves tieing will inevitably block the rubber duck from sliding down the half-pipe. So cable ties etc are out of the question. The best bet would be to have a hole in the side of the pipe and fix with wire, but as I understand it the pipes...
